A Better Building Experience.
About us
At Shawmut Design and Construction, we promise our clients a better building experience. As an award-winning construction management firm, we are dedicated to outperforming expectations every day—a responsibility we take seriously as employee-owners and a promise we make to each one of our partners. Right from the start—all the way to the ribbon cutting—we promise our clients a building experience that’s the very best. Winning for clients is our passion. We succeed when our clients enjoy the building process as much as the building itself. To be the best, we need to cultivate the best talent. We work to create an inclusive environment where everyone reaches their fullest potential, with a Diversity Leadership Council driving our journey toward diversity, equity, and inclusion. Shawmut is 100% employee-owned which means every employee has a vested interest in the success of the company and the success of our clients’ projects. As part owners through the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), each employee takes pride in being part of a talent-driven and leading-edge organization focused on delivering exceptional client service.

Today, we’re #ShawmutProud to join Walmart in celebrating the opening of its new home office campus. The 350-acre, sustainably designed workplace establishes a new standard for corporate headquarters by prioritizing worker well-being, environmental stewardship, and public accessibility. We’re honored to be part of the team building the Bentonville, AR campus, which is using the largest application of mass timber in the U.S. Congratulations to Walmart and all project partners!
The Walmart Home Office is officially open! Located in the company’s hometown of Bentonville, AR, and spanning 350 acres, the Home Office brings their Associates together on a modern, connected and sustainably-focused campus that also supports their health and wellbeing. More than 2 million square feet of office space is built with mass timber and each office building provides ample daylight, as well as indoor and outdoor flexible workspaces outfitted with the latest technology to create a seamless “work anywhere” experience. The Razorback Regional Greenway runs throughout the campus, replete with bike and walking trails to encourage mobility. Other unique amenities include a childcare center, fitness center, a bespoke coffee shop known as the “Tree House” and food hall – all designed to foster community and connection. We are honored to serve as Executive Architect of the Home Office and Design Architect for the office buildings, parking decks, retail, site, and Tree House coffee shop. Congratulations to our clients and project partners! https://lnkd.in/gv6MXC7c

We were thrilled to join our project partners from Sasaki at the ENR New England Best Projects Awards, where Boston City Hall Plaza was honored as the Best Landscape/Urban Development Project of the Year. During the ceremony, Mark Malmquist, New England Region Vice President of the Large Project Division, shared how this #ShawmutBuilt transformation revitalized the city’s iconic civic space—seamlessly blending engineering ingenuity with sustainable design to create a vibrant, accessible urban hub. Congratulations to the City of Boston and all our project partners on this incredible recognition. It’s inspiring to see how this space has been embraced by the community, and we’re #ShawmutProud to know it will be enjoyed for generations to come. Originally opened in 1972 as the heart of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Gund Hall has long been a hub for creativity and collaboration. Its iconic glass-enclosed, five-story studio block, known as the trays, serves as a physical and metaphorical center where students work, interact, and exchange ideas. Today, following a #ShawmutBuilt renovation in partnership with Bruner/Cott, Gund Hall has been reimagined as a model for the conservation and revitalization of mid-20th-century modern architecture. A centerpiece of the transformation was replacing the glass encasing the trays: 1,617 glazing units in total, including hybrid vacuum-insulated glass (VIG) that offers thermal resistance up to 10x greater than single-pane glass—making Gund Hall one of the first projects in the U.S. to use this innovation on a grand scale. The result? A 22.2% reduction in energy use and annual savings of 18,000kg in CO2 emissions. Read more about the project here: https://bit.ly/4j8ZXil
