🌍✨ Transforming spaces, inspiring change! This year Sidewalk Detroit launched its Earth Futures initiative with a goal to tackle climate challenges such as air quality and water pollution through the powerful lens of public art and spatial equity. From Jordan Weber's "New Forest, Ancient Thrones" at #CanfieldConsortium to Detroit-based artist Halima Cassells' upcycled installation at Eliza Howell Park, we're fostering deep connections between art, the environment and community. Today is #GivingTuesday! Help us continue to reimagine public spaces and build stronger, more connected communities. Last week Sidewalk Detroit's Program Director Augusta Morrison participated in the Midwest Artist Summit at the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City. More than 100 artists, arts organizations, and activists convened to explore the role and possibilities of arts and culture-bearer-curated platforms and ecologies. Key discussions included funding distributions, alternative sustainability models, stewardship and reciprocity, residency programs, movement work/activism, and fostering Midwest exchanges. The work continues and the coalition is growing stronger. Thank you MDW for organizing! Great to see our Detroit partners and friends at the table as well: #ArtDetroitNow, #BulkSpace, #TalkingDolls, #MaamoulPress, #PlayHouseLabs, #TheHinterlands. #SidewalkDetroit #Detroit #MidwestArtistSummit

We're pleased to announce that Detroit is one of 26 U.S. cities to receive an #AsphaltArt Initiative grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies! This program funds creative projects that improve street safety, revitalize public spaces and engage local communities. As part of the initiative, Sidewalk Detroit is leading community engagement for the Lahser Streetscape project. We're also excited to announce that the curatorial council has selected muralist Habacuc Bessiake to bring the community's vision to life! This vibrant mural will celebrate Detroit’s diverse and resilient spirit, uniting businesses and residents alike. At the recent Detroit’s 2024 Parks Summit, our very own Director and Founder Ryan Myers-Johnson moderated a panel on park stewardship, sharing insights from organizing volunteer cleanups, maintaining native habitats, tackling invasive species and more. At the same event, Sidewalk Detroit Program Director Augusta Morrison brought her expertise to a youth engagement panel, discussing efforts to connect Detroit’s youth with our parks. Eliza Howell Park Advisory Council member Leonard Weber also attended and spoke. It was a dynamic day connecting with park advocates, professionals and supporters, united to shape the future of our public spaces. #SidewalkDetroit #Detroit #DetroitParksCoalition #DetroitParksSummit #DetroitParks Detroit Parks Coalition
