Giving humanity a platform in Space to benefit life on Earth.

About us

Sierra Space is building a shared ecosystem in space for scientific collaboration and innovation to benefit life on Earth. With technologies that make space more affordable and accessible, we’re dedicated to creating a prosperous and secure space economy that will benefit all of humanity. Rapidly advancing toward the launch of the next generation of space transportation, the world’s first commercial spaceplane, Dream Chaser®, will perform cargo supply and return missions for NASA - delivering up to 12,000 pounds of cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) at a time. Sierra Space is also the developer of the Large Integrated Flexible Environment (LIFE™), a modular, three-story inflatable habitat that we are developing as we build the first commercial space station. The unique structure will provide opportunities for multiple businesses including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors, to optimize zero gravity benefits.

  • LaShawn Buckley, VP Destinations and In-Space Infrastructure, and Dr. Tom Marshburn, Chief Astronaut & VP Human Factors Engineering, attended the U.S. Department of Commerce Certified Space Business Mission to the UAE, coinciding with the Abu Dhabi Space Debate. The event, which brought together 150 leaders from government, aerospace, industry, and academia, including U.S. Ambassador Martina Strong and UAE Space Agency Director General H.E. Salem Al Qubaisi, provided a platform to engage with top Emirati and U.S. officials and explore project and investment opportunities in the UAE's space sector. We look forward to leveraging these connections to drive innovation in the commercial space industry.

  • Sierra Space contributed key components to the Europa Clipper spacecraft, which is headed to Jupiter's moon Europa.   Delivered items include two Solar Array Drive Actuators (SADAs), Thermal Louvers, and a cover system for the MASPEX instrument. The SADAs, made in Durham, North Carolina, rotate the large solar arrays (46.5 feet by 13.5 feet) to face the sun and transmit power and signals. The MASPEX cover system and Thermal Louvers, both made in Louisville, Colorado, manage gas collection and regulate the spacecraft’s temperature.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e3EKKWqn Photo credit: NASA

As our first Shooting Star cargo module undergoes final testing at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, our second and third cargo modules are in build at our Dream Factory in Colorado. These modules significantly increase the cargo capacity of Dream Chaser and provide versatile pressurized and unpressurized cargo capability.

  • In 2026, our Trash Compaction and Processing System (TCPS) will be tested aboard the ISS. This groundbreaking technology will be critical for future space exploration, handling waste management, stowage, and water reclamation for long-duration missions. TCPS will effectively reduce the volume of trash generated by astronauts and recover nearly all water entrained in the trash for further use. • NOVA | PBS, the primetime science series, will feature Sierra Space in tonight's episode on PBS.   The episode, titled "Building Stuff: Reach It!", is part of a three-part series exploring engineering advancements. Our Sierra Space Destinations team will be showcased, including behind-the-scenes footage of our historic Ultimate Burst Pressure Test from last December.   Check your local PBS schedule for airtimes or watch the full episode online: https://lnkd.in/egS9Weiz

  • We have successfully completed our sixth stress test and fourth Ultimate Burst Pressure (UBP) test for our LIFE® 10 commercial space station technology, achieving a rupture at 255 psi, the highest pressure yet. This test exceeded NASA's Factor of Safety recommendations, demonstrating a safety factor greater than 16x in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and 23x in lunar environments. Our team continues to lead in the development of expandable structures for various space applications, as we build the world's first commercial space station. Press Release: https://lnkd.in/euKs3_-A
