The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) held their annual #GEOGala this week, which honors the significant achievements of the #GEOINT Community. The program included the prestigious Arthur C. Lundahl-Thomas C. Finnie Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Kevin O'Connell in honor of his major contributions and renowned expertise in space commerce, the global space economy, and U.S. national security issues. For nearly four decades, he has focused on space commercialization, technological competitiveness, and how to advance them in global markets. He’s known to be a central pillar in the #GEOINT community due to his ground-breaking academic leadership and work to improve government and industry partnerships. This week the global security community came together for The Security Foundation (TSF)’s 13th Annual Dinner held at the stunning National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The event celebrated the leaders of public-private partnership and the many achievements of the U.S. Department of State's Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC). The evening included the OSAC Distinguished Achievement Awards, and featured keynote speaker The Honorable Leon Panetta, a former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and former Secretary of Defense who gave motivational remarks regarding the important and impactful work of TSF and OSAC. The TSF annual dinner raises funds to continue supporting OSAC's critical programs and mission of promoting information sharing between the U.S. Government and the American private sector on overseas security challenges in order to keep U.S. organizations and personnel working safely abroad. The University of San Diego hosted this week the #USDCyberLaw & Risk Symposium, now in its sixth year. This unique educational symposium brings together thought leaders at the forefront of cybersecurity innovation and legal expertise. Important topics addressed were cybersecurity laws in the US, the effects of geopolitics on cyber, the weaponization of AI by criminals, cyber risk and compliance in contracts, incident communication response strategies, and more. Insights from the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) on Insider Threats was the topic of today's Coffee & Conversation webinar presented by Intelligence and National Security Alliance. Today’s webinar was the final episode of a series on Addressing Emerging Security Threats sponsored by SIMS Software. Bishop Garrison, VP for Policy at INSA, moderated the webinar, and featured Don Carlos James Blasingame, Assistant Director, Enterprise Threat-Mitigation Directorate, NCSC/ODNI; and Dr. Catherine Camilletti, Deputy Assistant Director, Enterprise Threat-Mitigation Directorate, NCSC/ODNI. The webinar covered the establishment of the Joint Threat Assessment Team (JTAT), the new National Counterintelligence Strategy, and the implementation of personnel vetting reform. A discussion on best practices for Insider Threats emphasized that Insider Threat and Risk are intimately tied to employee well-being. Adversaries are using behavioral sciences and social engineering to target disgruntled workers and early employee engagement is crucial to preventing harm before it begins.
