✨ Last week, the SKALE2CT event was showcased at the #EuropeanWeekofRegionsandCities 2024, during the session titled Reversing Brain Drain: Empowering Place-Based Innovation through EU Financial Instruments. 🎤 Our speakers delivered #inspiring insights: - @Marc Pattison opened the session with an engaging introduction. - Michiel Scheffer, President of the European Innovation Council, shared his vision for advancing European innovation. 💡 - Yesenia Otamendi, Head of International Affairs at Fomento San Sebastián, discussed the city’s Talent and Innovative Entrepreneurship Strategy. 🌍 - Katerina Pramatari, Founding Partner at Uni.Fund, shared a successful financial instrument story from Greece. She explained how Uni.Fund is driving entrepreneurial growth by tapping into the hidden potential within universities and research institutions. - Valeri Petrov, Partner at Eleven Ventures, provided a powerful case study from Bulgaria. His presentation emphasized the critical role of financial instruments in supporting early-stage startups, particularly in transforming bold ideas into scalable ventures. 💸 Financial instruments are vital for empowering innovation by providing funding and support for startups to thrive. These tools—grants, loans, equity investments—enable regions to attract and retain talent, foster entrepreneurial ecosystems, and support sustainable growth. 🚀 Highlights from ANI | Agência Nacional de Inovação 's Participation at Encontro Ciência 2024 🌍 Encontro Ciência, Portugal's annual event dedicated to science, technology, and innovation, took place in Porto this year under the theme +Ciência para uma só Saúde e Bem-Estar Global (+Science for One Health and Global Well-Being). At the event, the focus was on the intersection of Science, Health, and Well-being, covering topics like Digital Health, AI, and Health Education. ANI played a key role, organizing sessions on 4-5 July centered on Portugal's future in research and innovation through Horizon Europe. This year’s #ANI@Ciência2024 underscored how collaboration through CoLABs and TICs is tackling challenges in the digital and green transitions, while boosting Portugal's role in European R&D. We're thrilled to celebrate the journeys of two innovative Latvian startups, BeeSage and Bruntor, as they participate in the Baltic Impact Accelerator (BIA) programme! 🚀 BeeSage is revolutionizing sustainable beekeeping by bridging the gap between bees and humans through real-time data, increasing honey yields by 20%, and enhancing environmental protection. 🌍🐝 Bruntor is transforming last-mile deliveries with their innovative electric 4-wheel kick-scooters, making deliveries faster, safer, and more efficient. 📦⚡ Both startups have benefited tremendously from the BIA programme, gaining insights into sustainability, negotiation, and international collaboration. 🌟 Through the BIA programme, 96 companies will be supported, 480 training sessions will be provided, and at least 720 companies will be reached. 📈 The #EKINN Entrepreneurship Center in #SanSebastian has received over 1,600 visitors in its first 100 days since opening in February. Promoted by the City Council and in collaboration with #SKALE2CT partner Donostia Sustapena - Fomento San Sebastián, it aims to boost innovation and entrepreneurship, tripling visits compared to the previous year.   💡 EKINN is a #GoodPractice submitted by our partner Donostia Sustapena - Fomento San Sebastián in the collection of best initiatives we are compiling for the #SKALE2CT project.   🌐 With a €12.5 million investment since 2015, EKINN offers 70 sustainable apartments for #researchers and organizes events and training in collaboration with #universities. On June 19th and 20th, the SKALE2CT Exchange & Learning (E&L) visit took place in Torino, in collaboration with the ACCELERATE GDT project funded by Interreg Europe. The event kicked off with the presentation of both projects and was followed by an inspiring keynote speech by Massimo Gaudina from DG Research and Innovation, emphasizing the pivotal role of the EU's "New European Innovation Agenda." Throughout the seminar, we explored how local policies, cutting-edge equipment, and advisory/mentoring services are driving business growth in the Torino area. The E&L visit was hosted at the Polytechnic University of Turin and the Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR) accelerator, providing tangible context to the discussion held during the morning and a dynamic environment for learning and exchange. Participants had the unique opportunity to delve into the lab for photonic technologies for Industry 4.0, gaining insights into the latest advancements in this cutting edge field.
