A big thank you to our friends over at the TRIMEDX foundation for their support! 🧡
Last year, TRIMEDX Foundation forged a new partnership with the Sobering Center Austin, which provides a safe place for publicly intoxicated people to sober up outside of jails and hospitals, and when appropriate, provide a bridge to recovery. This year, in addition to sending BMET volunteers to service and maintain diagnostic equipment, TRIMEDX Foundation approved a grant for the Sobering Center which will support their purchase of three new medical grade vital machines. These new machines will increase the Sobering Center's capacity and quality of care. Six years ago, Travis County and the City of Austin established the Sobering Center to divert publicly intoxicated individuals from emergency medical assistance or justice involvement to community-based care. Today, it stands as a trusted place for immediate sobriety care and a pathway to long-term recovery. “Far too many people are unable to access treatment for their mental health or substance use disorder. The opioid epidemic and mental health crisis we face are intertwined, each exacerbating the other, and it just got worse with the pandemic. We must act and we must do so immediately. Together, we saw the power of bringing together community advocates, health professionals, and local leaders to the table to find new solutions like the Sobering Center to begin tackling the substance use disorder crisis. We invested in a safe place, we the County, the City, and others, for residents to recover safely from intoxication instead of going to the jail or the emergency room. Today the Sobering Center has a proven record of success with over 10,000 people diverted from jails and hospitals already. I want to thank Laura Elmore LeBlanc for her leadership as Executive Director of the Sobering Center. You’ve really taken that to another level. I’m grateful for all that we’ve accomplished together and I’m excited for your vision for the future of that because I know we have a lot of work to do.” —Travis County Judge Andy Brown, State of the County Address 2024
