🌟 Building WITH the Community, Not FOR the Community 🌟 At Social Justice School (SJS), we firmly believe in the power of young people to change the world. All they need are the tools and the time—and at SJS, we are committed to giving them both. This is what it means to build with the community, not for the community. Together, we are fostering a generation of change-makers who are ready to take on the challenges of today and create a brighter tomorrow. #SocialJustice #CommunityBuilding #YouthLeadership #EducationForChange #SocialImpact

It's Giving Tuesday! Make a difference this Giving Tuesday by helping us support (6) SJS families with gifts of $550 each this holiday season! You may remember we started our innovative guaranteed income pilot program -- Guaranteed, Together -- this past summer. So far, it's been an amazing success -- 100% of participating families reported that this program enabled them to meet their basic needs! If you donate (tax deductible!) to SJS, you'll know that your dollars have a real impact: $160 provides a monthly stipend for an SJS student enrolled in our program, and $375 covers a family's monthly stipend, helping them meet their basic needs like rent, clothing, food, and more. This Giving Tuesday, help us ensure that every family has the resources they need to thrive. Donate today! Thank you! 🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that Social Justice School (SJS), in partnership with Mothers Outreach Network (MON), has just concluded DC’s first-ever intergenerational guaranteed income pilot, Guaranteed, Together! Over three transformative months, families received up to $800 per month, along with weekly cash amounts based on the number of scholar-activists in their household. This pilot allowed us to provide meaningful financial support to our community, and the impact has been incredible. 🌟 During our recent listening session, families shared how Guaranteed, Together made a difference: -One family increased their credit score and was able to purchase a washer and dryer. -Parents felt more present and empowered, as they could focus on parenting rather than meeting basic needs. -100% of families reported that the pilot helped them meet their essential needs. Our scholar-activists expressed a new sense of agency and security, sharing that they felt fully prepared for the first day of school. Families described Guaranteed, Together as a breath of fresh air and shared that the pilot gave them a renewed sense of hope. 💪 The best part? This initiative grew from the voices of our scholar-activists. Through listening sessions, our scholar-activists advocated for direct cash assistance as a solution to ending child poverty, simply saying, “Families need more cash.” Their words became the foundation of this program, demonstrating social justice in action. At SJS, we’re more than a school; we’re a community partner, adapting our programs to serve the real needs of the families we support. We’re deeply grateful for our partnership with MON and look forward to sharing updates soon as we continue to push for Guaranteed, Together to become lasting policy—not just a project. This is what equity, love, and liberation look like. This is Guaranteed, Together. ✊ #SocialJusticeInAction #GuaranteedIncome #CommunityPowered #EndChildPoverty #SJS

Their commitment to creating student-led solutions is nothing short of inspiring. These young leaders have taken bold steps to understand the complexities of gun violence and have designed thoughtful, impactful initiatives aimed at fostering safer communities. Their work is a testament to the power of youth activism and the importance of empowering students to be change-makers. Join us in celebrating these remarkable scholar-activists who are proving that age is no barrier to making a difference. Together, we are building a brighter, safer future for all. Big news! The Social Justice School is partnering with Mother's Outreach Network (@mothersoutreach) to offer Washington, D.C.'s first intergenerational guaranteed income program! This means the opportunity for direct cash benefits for SJS families this summer. We are so proud to be a part of this historic and innovative project. Guaranteed, Together will include both direct cash benefits ($800 a month, distributed weekly) and legal education services to 15 households for 3 months, starting this summer. MON will sustain and assess the efficacy of the program (with the goal of presenting findings to encourage more guaranteed income policies). Families who are enrolled at SJS and meet specific socioeconomic eligibility criteria (details below) will qualify for consideration. SJS and MON will identify and enroll approximately 15 households who: - have transition-aged youth and families who are considered ‘at-risk’ or have a high exposure to gun violence or at-risk for CFSA involvement - reside in DC, especially communities that have historically been impacted by adverse social determinants of health (i.e., housing insecurity, food insecurity, etc.) We'll have an info session at SJS next week (snacks provided!) on Wednesday June 12 at 5:30pm. All are welcome! And if you're not part of the SJS family yet, we can help you with that, too. If you qualify and are interested, please reach out to Mr. Long at myron@thesocialjusticeschool.org Learn more at https://lnkd.in/ebv8j5Yg Thank you again to MON (@mothersoutreach) for partnering with SJS for this opportunity! #washingtondc #dc #ubi #education #economicjustice #socialjustice
