Join my session on Feb 12 from 1:35 – 2:00 pm at #REPlus25 in Boston! I am excited for the opportunity to speak about our first- of- its kind report in the U.S., that shows the benefits flexible interconnection has on community solar projects. Join my session with Samantha Weaver at CCSA to learn more about our analysis that reveals flexible interconnection can provide 176% more revenue, and how these systems are a critical way to speed up DER deployment. For the first time in a generation, electrification, AI, and data centers are driving up electricity demand. With this rising demand, utilities are facing a significant challenge of how to meet electricity demand driven by the digital economy, and our experts have identified innovative solutions, with solar playing a key role. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) like rooftop solar, can be deployed quickly and efficiently. Our recent research shows that “flexible interconnection” arrangements can speed up DER deployment by alleviating the potential for costly grid upgrades while also boosting community solar revenue by up to 176%. As 2024 comes to a close, it's clear that this has been a year of significant advancements for the solar and storage industry, and our experts have been at the forefront driving innovative solutions and breaking down barriers to solar deployment. At the Solar and Storage Industries Institute, we've had several major wins this year. Our groundbreaking agrivoltaics report, revealed that more than 70% of farmers are open to large-scale solar projects on their land, as long as agricultural production can continue. Stay tuned for our 2025 case studies that will help solar developers and farmers integrate solar energy and agriculture. https://lnkd.in/emfUXUTC As we wrapped up the year, we also released a first-of-its-kind report in the U.S., showing flexible interconnection can help in overcoming grid delays, while opening up significant revenue opportunities for community solar developers. This comes during a time when energy demand is surging across the nation. Our analysis shows that this approach offers tremendous opportunities to fill in electricity gaps left by this demand, by connecting distributed energy resources like rooftop solar quickly to the grid https://lnkd.in/ecQ4t3fy. We spent 2024 demonstrating and reinforcing that solar is a reliable and cost- effective solution for communities, developers and utilities across the nation. We are deeply grateful to our partners for their ongoing collaboration, and we are excited to continue the work in 2025!
U.S. #solar now produces enough electricity annually to power over 37 million homes. Total solar deployment in 2024 is again expected to exceed 40 GW, followed by annual installation volumes of at least 43 GW for the remainder of the decade. By 2029, total U.S. solar will be enough to power over 71 million homes. Dive into all the new details in SEIA and Wood Mackenzie's Q4 2024 Solar Market Insight report: seia.org/smi

A groundbreaking report by SI2 reveals that flexible interconnection could boost revenue by up to 176% for community solar projects. This innovative approach which adjusts solar output based on grid conditions, offers significant economic benefits to community solar developers. Findings in this new report reinforce that flexible interconnection could alleviate the need for costly grid upgrades and allow for solar projects to connect to the grid sooner while also yielding higher revenue potential with minimal curtailment. As grid congestion and delays become more prevalent, flexible interconnection represents a vital tool for scaling community solar projects and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. Thank you to our partners at the Coalition for Community Solar Access, Smarter Grid Solutions Solar Energy Industries Association, National Grid, and Nexamp and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e2rpbkbB

DID YOU KNOW: Your #Thanksgiving dinner may be solar-powered? 🍽️ In addition to growing the crops, the sun is also helping farms and ranches across America save on their energy bills. Here’s are just a few examples👇 TURKEYS🍗 Bowman & Landes Turkeys in New Carlisle, Ohio, is thankful for #solar power. Their solar array, installed as part of the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program, saves them about $25,000 per year in energy costs: https://lnkd.in/ekiKsu8K POTATOES🥔 CSS Farms in Castile, New York is irrigating their potato crop with a new solar + storage system, replacing a diesel generator and creating "huge" savings: https://lnkd.in/edARJ9cW PUMPKIN PIES🥧 The Jerry Smith Produce and Pumpkin Farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin produces 110% of its electricity needs from its two solar arrays. See how they do it: https://lnkd.in/eGB6sXSC CRANBERRIES🍒 Thanks to the revenue from their solar panels, the Ward family’s cranberry farm in Carver, Massachusetts is still up and running. “This is a cran-solar farm. We farm solar and I love that. It’s renewable,” said Dick Ward: https://lnkd.in/e5syTijZ CORN🌽 Several new studies have confirmed that co-locating solar and corn can help optimize revenue for farmers. Sheep, lettuce and peppers are already thriving alongside solar panels and it looks like corn could be next: https://lnkd.in/egEYA8Nn Across the country, agrivoltaics are helping family farms save money and expand their operations. New analysis by S12 reveals that utilities are significantly underestimating future energy demands. Of the 25 utilities assessed, 21 could face a 26% shortfall in electricity supply by 2040—enough to power 29 million homes. Distributed resources like rooftop solar and storage will help alleviate the growing electrical demand and pressures on utilities, while also keeping energy costs more affordable for consumers. Shawn Rumery, Senior Program Director at SI2, recently joined US Solar's Peter Schmitt at #REPlusMW to share results from SI2's survey on agrivoltaics- the combination of agriculture and solar energy- and highlight active projects. The survey shows 70% of farmers are conditionally open to large-scale solar on farmland, and that 3/4 of developers see farmland solar constituting a large share of their future business. Agrivoltaics is a key strategy in meeting the needs of farmers, communities and developers, but barriers remain. SI2 is working collaboratively with developers, farmers, utilities and other stakeholders to identify solutions that enable further deployment of agrivoltaic projects.
