Sphera’s 2025 Supply Chain Risk Report highlights the escalating challenges businesses faced in 2024, as global supply chains contended with financial instability, compliance pressures and rising quality risks. Key findings reveal significant financial challenges among suppliers, with bankruptcy declarations surging by 48% and force majeure declarations jumping 61% year-over-year. These indicators underscore the growing fragility of supply chain partners and the urgent need for businesses to proactively monitor and mitigate risks. Supplier site relocations, driven by cost pressures and market dynamics, led to a 54% increase in hazardous material risks and a 19% rise in product recalls. These surges highlight the critical importance of robust oversight and proactive quality management to protect operational and reputational continuity. Paul Marushka, CEO of Sphera, emphasized the report’s importance: “The findings from this year’s report highlight the need for real-time insights, predictive analytics and data-driven strategies to ensure resilience. By addressing these risks proactively, companies can transform vulnerabilities into competitive advantages while navigating today’s complex landscape.” This year’s findings underline the increasing complexity of supply chain risks and the importance of resilient, sustainable strategies for business leaders.
