Today, on World Depression Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of supporting those who face the challenges of depression. Mental health is as crucial as physical health, and it is essential to foster open conversations, spread awareness, and offer support. For students studying abroad, the experience can be transformative, yet it may also present emotional challenges. At SSA Education Abroad, we are dedicated to creating a supportive environment where our students have access to the resources and care needed to succeed—both academically and emotionally. Key reminders for us all: - Seeking help is a strength. - Discuss mental health with compassion and understanding. - Together, we can foster a culture that prioritizes emotional well-being. Resharing. This a great opportunity for a young professional! SSA, then “The Center for Cross-Cultural Study” was my first employer after I finished my undergraduate degree! I had amazing colleagues and mentors. It launched a lifelong career in international higher education and shaped my post graduate academic trajectory.

Panama - An Absolute Gem (Hidden In Plain Site) Months ago, I made plans to take a quick trip to Panama before going to Colombia for a wedding and to catch up with one of my friends in Bogota. I remembered speaking to Michelle Durán Ruiz, PhD at the The Forum on Education Abroad conference about their new location. Big shout out to SSA Education Abroad - Michelle and Rodrigo Castillo - for coordinating this visit. Truly grateful to have learned about the potential for classes, homestays and getting a bit of flavor around what they have on offer. I got to learn about chocolate and one of the indigenous tribes, the Guna, in Panama at the MUMO Museum. The designs that you seen in those photos (the ones with the square design) can take up to 60 hours. Additionally, I also saw St. Joseph's Church that showed how people pray to St. Hedwig in hope to get their first house. People show designs of what they want their house to look like and they pray for it. Not featured was a chocolate tasting (because I ate all the chocolate and got sticky fingers)! More on Colombia coming soon! P.S. And not to sound pretentious, if you've sent me a message or request recently, give me some time to get through them!

As the year comes to an end, I want to take the time to reflect back on my first summer study abroad experience with SSA Education Abroad. During my time in Sevilla, I had the wonderful opportunity of working with 3-5 year olds in an English immersion summer program. This past summer in Spain, has not only taught me the ins and outs of being a teacher and how to make learning fun, but also the rich culture of Sevilla. Thank you to everyone at Spanish Studies Abroad for all you did and everything you taught me.
