India is set to add an impressive 22.4 GW of new solar PV capacity in 2024, as per JMK Research. By September, the country had already achieved a 161% YoY increase in utility-scale solar, reaching 13.2 GW, alongside 3.2 GW in rooftop installations. By year-end, cumulative additions are projected to hit 17 GW (utility-scale), 4 GW (rooftop), and 1.4 GW (off-grid), propelling India’s total renewable capacity beyond 200 GW, with solar leading at 45%. States like Rajasthan and Gujarat are spearheading these advancements. India’s solar #manufacturing is also witnessing a transformation, with companies like Adani Solar, Waaree Group, and Vikram Solar ramping up module exports and domestic supply. Notably, domestic manufacturers captured 66% of the market in Q3 2024. This growth underscores India’s ambition to become a global leader in renewable energy, driving sustainability while reducing reliance on imports. #solarenergy #renewableenergy #india #sustainability #greentech #energyefficiency #solarindustry #solarpv #solarpanels

Under the visionary PM Surya Ghar Yojana, rooftop #solarpowerplants will soon transform 1,070 government buildings in Gurugram, generating 50 MW of clean energy. This initiative, spearheaded by HREDA, aligns with India’s renewable energy goals and reduces reliance on conventional electricity. Launched in February 2024 by PM Narendra Modi, the scheme promises affordable energy with subsidies, offering 300 free electricity units to households. Additionally, common citizens installing solar plants can avail grants up to ₹78,000, with special provisions for Antyodaya families. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar has urged all government departments to register their buildings on the portal by next week, ensuring timely implementation. The initiative extends beyond urban areas, with plans to establish one solar village in each district. This bold step reinforces India’s commitment to a greener future by making solar energy accessible and affordable for all. 🌍☀️ #solarenergy #renewableenergy #gurugram #cleanenergy #pmmodi #sustainability #solarpowered #solarinstallation

🚰 Solar-Powered Clean Water: A Game-Changer by MIT Engineers 🌞 MIT engineers have developed a revolutionary solar-powered desalination system that could transform access to clean drinking water for millions worldwide. Unlike traditional systems, this innovation doesn't rely on batteries or grid power, cutting costs and enhancing sustainability. The system adapts to sunlight patterns, scaling up desalination during sunny hours and efficiently utilizing over 94% of the solar panel's power. Even in cloudy weather, it produces 5,000 liters of fresh water daily, making it an ideal solution for water-stressed inland areas. Designed for brackish groundwater, which is often inaccessible due to high salt concentrations, this technology offers a lifeline for remote and low-income regions grappling with increasing salinity due to climate change. As plans to scale up and commercialize this technology take shape, the potential for affordable, renewable-powered drinking water couldn’t come at a better time. 🌍 Innovation like this lights the way for a sustainable future. #solarenergy #cleanwater #innovation #sustainability #renewableenergy #solarpv

The U.S. #solarenergy sector continues its remarkable rise, with solar power generation increasing by 22.5% year-over-year as of September 2024, now contributing 6.63% of the nation's electricity. Leading this charge are 15 states that achieved over 50% growth in solar generation in the past year. South Dakota tops the list with an incredible 7,067% increase, thanks to its first utility-scale solar facilities. Other standout states include West Virginia (347%), Ohio (126%), and Arkansas (116%). Many of these states, previously lagging in solar capacity, are catching up rapidly with ambitious projects. Interestingly, Maine and New Mexico, part of this high-growth group, now derive over 10% of their electricity from solar, showcasing leadership in adoption. While established solar leaders like California and Nevada see slower percentage growth due to high existing capacity, nationwide expansion highlights how solar is transforming energy landscapes across the U.S. #solarenergy #renewables #sustainability #cleantechnology #solarindustry #solarpowered #solarinstallation

The largest U.S. pension fund, CalPERS, has surpassed the halfway mark of its ambitious $100 billion climate investment target. Since 2023, the fund has invested $3.6 billion in climate solutions and pledged an additional $3.2 billion, bringing its total climate-related investments to $50 billion. Key initiatives include partnerships with TPG Rise Climate and Brookfield Asset Management - Asia Pacific and investments in companies like Octopus Energy to drive the energy transition. CalPERS CEO Marcie Frost emphasizes this as a historic investment opportunity to build a low-carbon economy. However, environmental groups and beneficiaries have raised concerns about CalPERS investing in Exxon bonds, citing risks tied to fossil fuel expansion and diminishing economic returns. Advocates urge the fund to prioritize sustainable investments that align with a net-zero future. This milestone highlights the potential and challenges of balancing climate goals with fiduciary responsibilities. #climateinvestments #netzero #renewableenergy #calpers #sustainablefinance
