This month, many families are receiving PSAT scores. For 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, these scores aren’t just numbers—they’re powerful insights into your teen’s college readiness and an opportunity to build a solid strategy for the future. I am a big fan of testing expert and education policy advocate Akil Bello, and he recently shared fascinating information about the PSAT. Please read it here. 12th Graders: Decisions December is in full swing, and with early action and early decision results rolling in, many families are reevaluating their approach to the admissions process. Whether your teen is just starting to think about college or facing the reality of deferrals and rejections, the right guidance can make all the difference. Book a 1:1 Strategy Session for 9th-11th graders or a 1:1 College Application Review Session for seniors. The PSAT, often taken in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, is more than just a practice test for the SAT. Here’s what it provides: ~ A Benchmark for College Readiness: The PSAT shows your teen’s strengths and areas for improvement in reading, writing, and math—key components of college success. ~ Qualification for Scholarships: For 11th graders, high scores can open doors to the National Merit Scholarship Program and other merit-based opportunities. ~ Early College Planning Insights: The scores highlight areas where focused preparation could lead to higher SAT scores and improved competitiveness for selective colleges. But here’s the catch: PSAT scores alone won’t guide your family on what to do next. That’s where a Strategy Session comes in. Here’s how I can help through a College Application Review Session: ~ Accepted: Is your teen still submitting applications to other schools? Are they confident this is the best fit, or would they like to consider other options? We’ll discuss the next steps and how to navigate this exciting but busy season. ~ Deferred: A deferral means the college sees potential in your teen but wants more information. We’ll craft a letter of continued interest and highlight new achievements to strengthen their application. ~ Rejected: Rejections are tough but don’t define your teen’s future. This is an opportunity to reevaluate their college list and refine upcoming applications to ensure they target the best-fit schools. In a College Application Review Session, I’ll thoroughly review your teen’s applications—including essays and activity lists—and identify ways to improve and strengthen their strategy moving forward. As a parent, you don’t want your teen to feel overwhelmed or stuck during such a critical time. A 1:1 session with me provides the personalized attention, clarity, and actionable steps your family needs to move forward confidently. Let’s ensure your teen can navigate this season with confidence and clarity. I’ve guided hundreds of families through these challenges and’d love to do the same for yours.
