💡 The digital divide continues to leave underserved communities without access to critical technology and information—but this gap can be closed. A recent article on “Bridging the Digital Divide” highlights the urgent need for action, emphasizing that vulnerable populations, including racial minorities, rural communities, and those in lower socioeconomic groups, face significant barriers to accessing technology and health information. Without intervention, these barriers will perpetuate health disparities and limit opportunities for empowerment. The AMIA 2003 Spring Congress framed a national agenda to address these disparities through policy, funding, research, and education. Today, Streetcode carries this mission forward by equipping communities with the skills, access, and mindset they need to thrive in an innovation-driven economy. Access to technology is more than a tool—it’s a lifeline to equity. At Streetcode, we’re closing the digital divide by equipping communities of color with the mindset, skills, and access needed to thrive in today’s innovation economy. Since 2014, we’ve: ✔️Empowered 9,000 students through our programs ✔️Distributed 2,700 tech devices to Bay Area families ✔️Offered 120 free courses and workshops to build essential tech skills The impact is clear: 88% of our students meet someone who helps them achieve their goals, and 85% attend with family or are referred by someone in the community.
