In our ongoing #GETReflections series, we're delving deeper into our expanded concept of equity in tech. Beyond gender, we're committed to addressing historical exclusions based on race, ethnicity, and ability. Our vision of equity encompasses the full spectrum of identities and experiences, recognizing the intersecting layers of discrimination that have marginalized multiple communities within the tech industry. As we champion equity, we acknowledge that progress requires an inclusive approach that amplifies voices from historically excluded backgrounds. By centering the experiences of people from all marginalized genders, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and those from marginalized ethnic communities, we aim to dismantle systemic barriers and create opportunities for all to thrive in tech. Our commitment extends beyond tokenism toward meaningful representation and power creation, ensuring that diverse perspectives drive innovation and shape the future of technology. Through our #GETCommunity, we're fostering dialogue and action to build a more inclusive tech ecosystem. By recognizing the unique challenges faced by different communities and actively working to address them, we're paving the way for a more equitable future. Together, we're redefining what it means to be a champion of creating inclusive communities and workplaces, standing united in our pursuit of justice, inclusion, and progress in tech. Join us as we continue to reflect, learn and advocate for a tech industry that reflects the richness and diversity of humanity. #genderequalityintech #techleaders #womenintechnology #genderequality #inclusivetech #inclusivity #computerscience #womeninstem #equityintech #entrepreneurship

Another Tech DEI mission-driven organization has announced they’re closing shop. This follows Women Who Code’s announcement earlier this year. It’s easy to sink into dismay and cynicism. Wasn’t it just 4 years ago (almost to the month) when companies were falling over themselves trying to prove they were truly committed to DEI and racial equity? So much for virtue signaling. I’ve worked through another such contraction in the DEI space. After the collapse of Bears Stearns and Lehman Brothers during the global financial crisis of 2008, I saw whole DEI teams laid off and entire DEI strategies scrapped. Mission driven organizations went into crisis management mode. Wanna know what happened after that? Companies were caught completely unprepared to respond to the emergence of the #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo movements that emerged in 2012/2013. True DEI commitment has always been about pushing forward with equity even when it isn’t popular. None of the dynamics of diversifying workforces and consumer markets has changed since 2020. https://lnkd.in/g6An_fVh

In 2024, women make up 28% of the tech workforce. In the 2000s, that figure was only 9%. Gone are the days when women were expected to stay at home with children or work for minimal wages in non-technical jobs. Society has evolved for the better (with still a long way to go, of course). The remarkable contributions of smart and creative women are driving the momentum needed to break the remaining barriers in the tech industry. What is contributing to this change? 1. Access to education 2. Modern technologies Tools like No-Code have democratized the ability to build and create. They empower everyone to innovate and without needing technical expertise. Among the 28% of women in tech, there is significant representation in industries such as: - Software development - Product management - UX/UI design The rise of No-Code platforms has also fostered communities where women in tech can connect, learn, and advance together. These communities offer: - Online forums - Networking events - Tailored resources - Mentorship Yes, progress has been made. But we’re far from where we need to be. Our goal as a No-Code institution is to empower as many women as we can with: - More access - More equality - More representation We want to make tech truly inclusive with No-Code.

Hello network, this week is week two of Tech Talent Charter's spring campaign and it's also neurodiversity celebration week this week, with lots of DEI events taking place online which can be joined via Zoom. For everyone in tech organizations who care about diversity equity and inclusion for people, consider this stat from the latest Diversity in Tech Report Only 9% of tech employees are reported to be from lower socio-economic backgrounds compared to 29% in finance and 23% in law TTC's report goes on to discuss that tech does indeed appear to have some serious problems with socio-economic exclusion, faring far worse than sectors that have long been chastised for elitism, read the report to discover if this question is relevant to your organization and find a link in the report to The Sutton Trust, who are launching a new programme to help young people from low socio-economic backgrounds get into tech. https://hubs.la/Q02gLXsG0

📢 Navigating the Complexities of Diversity in Tech 📢 The tech industry is no stranger to controversy, especially when it comes to #diversity. Terms like “diversity hire” often stir up heated #debates. Critics argue that focusing on diversity can lead to tokenism or lower hiring standards. But here’s the reality: diversity isn’t just a buzzword or a box to check—it's a critical driver of #innovation and business success. 🌍 Diverse teams bring more to the table than just #representation —they contribute to richer discussions, foster creativity, and lead to better problem -solving. In fact, companies in the top quartile for gender diversity on executive teams are 25% more likely to achieve above-average #profitability (McKinsey, 2023). For racial and ethnic diversity, this likelihood increases to 36% (McKinsey, 2023). Yet, despite the clear business case, the tech sector still struggles with representation: - Women make up only 28.8% of the tech workforce (AnitaB, 2023) - Black or African American employees represent just 9% of the tech workforce (Built In, 2023) - Hispanic or Latin employees account for 8% of the tech workforce (Built In, 2023) It's clear that we still have a long way to go. But each step forward matters. Here are some Berlin communities and associations paving the way for underrepresented groups to thrive in tech: - 2hearts - BlackInTech Berlin - PyLadies Berlin - Women in Machine Learning and Data Science Berlin - Colorintech - SHE/THEY – Queer start-up founders club - Tech4Girls* - Venture Ladies - TokenWoman - FrauenLoop - Akelei (https://lnkd.in/e6EJpSeH) - and so much more! Let's work together to make tech a space where everyone feels valued and included. Because diversity isn't just beneficial—it's essential for creating a better, more equitable future. 🚀 💬👇 What are your thoughts on diversity hiring in tech? How can we make a difference together?
