About us

Students Run Philly Style (SRPS) has a mission to use running and mentorship as a vehicle to transform students' lives, forever. These students challenge themselves on a daily basis, training alongside their mentors to run as far as a half or full marathon. Through their training, youth in the program learn the benefits of hard work, determination and goal setting and develop the skillset to overcome any adversity they encounter in running and in life. Their lives are forever changed. Founded in 2004, SRPS has served thousands of Philadelphia youth. Quickly after the program started it became clear that the impact on the participating youth was much greater than the original goal of reducing childhood obesity. Program youth were not only embracing a newfound healthy lifestyle, but graduated the program with increased grades, improved likelihood to graduate, better confidence, greater connectedness to their communities, and equipped skill sets to overcome any adversity that stands in their way. In its first year, SRPS served 50 youth from community centers across the city. In an effort to expand the program, SRPS shifted to a school-based model. Since this change, the organization has grown to serve over 1,500 Philadelphia youth ages 12-18 annually.

  • This year, we’re celebrating an incredible milestone: the 20th anniversary of both Students Run Philly Style and Philadelphia Runner! Over the last two decades, SRPS has inspired thousands of young runners, while Philadelphia Runner has built a thriving community for runners across our city. To mark this milestone, we're launching the Run It Back shoe donation campaign and invite our network to get involved! Now through the end of December, you can donate gently used running shoes at any Philadelphia Runner location or at the Philadelphia Marathon Expo. For each pair collected, SRPS receives a small donation, helping support youth mentorship and creating a positive environmental impact by giving your shoes a new life. Join us in empowering young runners and building a more sustainable future. Let’s run it back, together! #RunRecycleRepeat

  • Join us in giving a very warm welcome to the newest addition to our team, Kailyn Schneider, who is joining as our Program Manager of Justice Initiatives and will be leading our MileUp team! Coming from a career in social services, Kailyn's focus has been centered on family and community support for justice-impacted folks in the Philadelphia area. This background, coupled with her status as a Philly native, has brought her to SRPS's diversion program, MileUp, transitioning her line of work from families to students, and leaning on her previous professional experience with the Philadelphia justice system. Kailyn believes running to be an act of self-empowerment, an important tool for students as they navigate through life's challenges. When she’s not involved in community efforts, you might spot her running, knitting, or reading along the Schuylkill River Trail. Welcome, Kailyn!
