During the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Asunción, Paraguay, this festive dance was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This monumental achievement not only highlights the richness of Albania’s cultural heritage but also brings international attention to the spirit of the Tropoja region and the wider Albanian tradition. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗞’𝗰𝗶𝗺𝗶 𝗶 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗷𝗲𝘀? K’cimi i Tropojës is more than just a dance; it’s a powerful symbol of community, identity, and joy for the people of Tropoja and Malësia e Gjakovës. Passed down through generations, it intertwines elements of oral tradition, music, rituals, and festive celebrations. The dance is performed during significant social and ceremonial events such as weddings, engagements, and local festivals. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the tupan (drum), the melodic çifteli (two-string instrument), and the fyell (flute), the dancers move with energy and precision, radiating the exuberance that defines the Tropoja community. Performers often wear traditional garments, complemented by colorful red or yellow scarves, preserving the authenticity of this cultural treasure.
