Wow - really excellent afternoon of content and conversation yesterday at the inaugural Leading Learning @ RevUP pre-event. Many thanks to everyone who showed up and contributed to the collective learning around association education revenue. I won’t try to tag everyone, but I will call out our fearless panelists: Jack Coursen Erin (Stevens) Pressley Richard Gordon David Upbin Veronica Diaz, PhD, CAE Stephanie Rizk And tamer ali , whose company authentic learning labs sponsored the event. And Jamie Notter for a great closing keynote. Many thanks to Rebecca Gray for helping Celisa Steele and I get this new event off the ground. And, finally, many thanks to our partners at Professionals for Association Revenue (PAR) for being open to our piggybacking on their great event and collaborating to make it all possible! #associations #learningbusiness

What's your role as a learning provider if, as David Cain at Raptitude puts it, somebody already has it figured out? In truth, lot's of people probably already have it figured out. Getting content, information, courses isn't really the hard part any more. The hard part is: 🔹 Getting content that's trustworthy, accurate, timely, usable information - arguably all much harder in a world of AI-generated content 🔹 Knowing how to align the content with your specific context, your situation - what's relevant, what's not? How do the gaps get filled? 🔹 Implementing, applying - what make sense? How do you plan and schedule most effectively? What's the roadmap? 🔹 Staying on track and being held accountable And probably more - those are just a few quick thoughts that came to mind as I read Cain's article. The main thing they suggest to me is that if you are focused primarily on cranking out content as a learning provider - more conferences, more courses, etc. - you are probably missing the bigger part of the opportunity at this point. https://lnkd.in/eq2VUQWE #learningbusiness #continuingeducation #trainingproviders

I noticed that a speaker at the upcoming ASAE annual meeting has picked up on the "Could associations replace college" question that I first posed nearly a decade ago (https://lnkd.in/en7BhfeP ). It was a rhetorical question, but perception of higher ed value certainly does not seem to have improved much since, as this recent report from Gallup and the Lumina Foundation suggests. https://lnkd.in/eqU5ackY I'm still not of the view that colleges and universities have truly run their course (so to speak), but certainly the need for significant change remains and certainly we need to be taking a much more serious look at the alternatives - and association education programming, particularly in tandem with various forms of credentialing, certainly has an important role to play. Of course, I can't say I hear C-level association leaders speaking up any more vocally than than ever have on this issue and opportunity. Perhaps I'll hear it at the upcoming ASAE annual meeting? #associations #highered #valueofcollege

I love and help to promote all of our podcast episodes, but every once and a while there's an episode or two that I feel deserve some extra attention. That's true of this two part series on Cyril O. Houle's The Inquiring Mind. Part I - https://lnkd.in/dUxC5Smk Part II - https://lnkd.in/dhU_ZVqd Houle's thinking has had a great deal of influence on my own thinking about lifelong learning and lifelong learners and I think learning business professionals would benefit from greater awareness and appreciation of his work. Hopefully this series will contribute to that goal. I feel certain I would have come to Houle's work eventually, but I am grateful to my friend and Houle's son David Houle for making me aware of it much earlier than might have otherwise been the case. As we note in the episode, The Inquiring Mind is out of print, but it's definitely worth doing what you can to find a copy. And, of course, listen to these two episodes! #lifelonglearning #adulteducation #adultlearning #learningbusiness

A comprehensive post on the market for continuing education, professional development, and adult lifelong learning in general.
Managing Director, Tagoras. Co-host, Leading Learning Podcast. Author, Leading the Learning Revolution.
This post on the market for adult lifelong learning (which includes continuing ed and professional development) has been getting quite a bit of interest on the Leading Learning site, so I thought I'd share it again here. https://lnkd.in/gK-ME78s There is, of course, a huge and growing market for adult lifelong learning, but one that I think has been hindered by being poorly defined and, as a result, not served as well as it could be. If anyone reading this knows of other good articles that discuss this market, I'd be grateful if you would let me know. I had to cobble together a lot of pieces to write this one. It would be great to find others who are writing comprehensively about this market. #learningbusiness #lifelonglearning #associations #continuingeducation #adultlearning

Assessing price sensitivity and willingness to pay is a significant part of our market assessment work. That and, of course, aligning price with value to help organizations maximize revenue from their educational programming. These principles continually come into play.

In this week's Leading Learning Podcast Celisa Steele and discuss three key principles of pricing that need to be familiar ground for learning business professionals: https://lnkd.in/eeEKR9UG If you enjoy the episode - and the podcast, in general - please share it and consider leaving a brief review and rating on Apple Podcasts - https://lnkd.in/dPXSZ4x - or wherever you get you podcasts. Many organizations issue badges, certificates, and other credentials to verify that learners have completed their education programs. The hope, more or less explicit, is that these credentials actually have value out in the employment market. But how can learners easily manage their credentials and share them with employers? And how do employers know they are valid? The answer is "standards" - and that's exactly what we will be discussing in today's Leading Learning Webinar, Adding Value to Skills-Based Credentials with Digital Standards. If you are serious about improving your digital credentialing efforts this year, you really don't want to miss it. Get the details and register for free here >> https://lnkd.in/eGuZpaR The Webinar is at 1:00 ET. If you can't make it live, go ahead and register to receive the recording. (And, if you do make it live, CAE credit is available.) We're grateful to be partnering with 1EdTech Consortium to offer the Webinar. The session features Rob Coyle, Technical Program Manager at 1EdTech; Kelly Hoyland, Director of Higher Education Programs at 1EdTech; Darin H., (Hobbs) VP of Learning & Employment Records at Western Governors University; and Kymberly Lavigne-Hinkley, Director, Community of Care Ecosystem at WGU. Celisa Steele and I will facilitate the discussion. #digitalcredentials #digitalbadges #workforcedevelopment #associations
