Conservation education is key component on creating wildlife awareness to the public and therefore an essential tool for building and nurturing coexistence between people and wildlife. TEF is determined to provide elephant conservation education to communities around Mkomazi National Park to raise awareness of the public about elephants and human-elephant coexistence. Recently, TEF partnered with @tanedu_initiatives and WILD NATURE INSTITUTE to acquire practical knowledge and skills that would help enormously to enhance our delivery model.📚🐘 We are thrilled to begin this project that will involve school curriculum and outreach programs such as park visitations. Thanks to NABU International Naturschutzstiftung for funding this project. #elephantconservation #conservationeducation #elephantbiology #elephantecology

🐘🚨Community HECs Rapid Response Teams: Bridging the Gap Between People and Elephants!🌍💚 At tanzanianelephant_foundation we use community HECs rapid response teams as one among the innovative projects in reducing Human-elephant conflicts. These teams are dedicated to reducing conflicts between communities and elephants. ✨ They respond quickly to elephant sightings near human settlements/farmlands and potential conflict situations, ensuring both human and elephant safety. 👥They are trained to promote community awareness about elephant behaviours and safety while coexisting with them. By supporting this project, we’re creating safer spaces for both human and elephant to live harmoniously while promoting peaceful coexistence. 🌿🤝🐘 📷-Kisiwani response team 📍-Kisiwani village adjacent to Mkomazi National Park #HumanElephantCoexistence #ElephantConservation #WildlifeProtection #SaveElephants #CommunityAction

African savanna elephant range in open and wooded savannas, marshes to semi deserts, where they can forage quality resources and reproduce successfully. With support from @wildlifeprotectionsolutions, TEF conducted camera trapping studies in @arusha_nationalpark and @mkomazi_national_park, and achieved to gather significant information on detected elephant events using key resources especially on open areas and water sources. These findings, triggers conservation approaches that need to be implemented to conserve these areas often used by elephant for the persistence of their population. #elephantconservation #cameratrapping 📍-Mkomazi National Park 📸-TEF Research Team

Communities living adjacent to protected areas like Mkomazi National Park suffer significantly from human-elephant conflicts, especially crop raiding. TEF uses interventions such as beehive fences and rapid response teams to reduce the frequency and severity of conflicts. This late January, TEF research team, with support from @freundederserengeti , has conducted a pre-project survey to assess the impacts of elephants on socioeconomic welfare of the people of Vumari village. Results show that above half of people’s crops were raided by elephants leading to socioeconomic distress and hostility toward elephants. However, as we have proved in our other project areas, we believe the beehive fence in Vumari will change the story of many during the post-project surveys.🐘🐝🍯🌾 #humanelephantconflicts #beehives

🐘 One among our approaches at TEF, we believe that sustainable conservation solutions start with local communities. That’s why we always equip local communities with beekeeping skills for sustainable beehive fence management. 🌍 🐘By doing this, we’re not just enhancing the communities through the success of beehive fences in protection of their farms from elephant crop raiding, but also we’re building skills, fostering environmental stewardship, and improving livelihoods of the communities. 🍯 🐘Together we can create a buzzy for positive change! 🐝🐘🌻💪 📸-TEF HEC-Team Vaileth Jairosy 📍-Vumari Village #CommunityFirst#BeeTheChange #BeekeepingTraining #BeehiveFences#ConservationInAction #LocalEmpowerment#ProtectingNature #TEF

Elephants spatio-temporally change their routes when crossing villages around protected areas. By varying their routes, they avoid risks and minimize stress of encountering people. TEF research and monitoring team collects updated data of elephant routes in project villages using dung, footprints, tress scratches, and rarely live sightings to understand this better.
