  • The Delegation of The European Union to Kenya 🇪🇺 regularly hosts the Trade Counsellors' Meeting, open to all EU embassies as well as trade missions present in Kenya (see picture from our January 2025 meeting). This group is extremely valuable for Finland 🇫🇮 as well, for several reasons: ✅ Sharing information on the business environment in Kenya ✅ Mapping out mutual opportunities for trade ✅ Planning upcoming events, such as the EU-Kenya Business Summit ✅ Providing updates on the progress of the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) coming into force. The EU is a major global operator and a strong partner in Kenya. Through its delegations, it provides tangible benefits for all member states in their engagements with the host country—in this case, Kenya 🇰🇪. Stronger together! 💪

  • 🌍💼 Kenian talous kasvaa vahvasti – mahdollisuuksia suomalaisille yrityksille! • Team Finland Kenya colleagues from the Embassy, Business Finland and Finnfund attended a regional Team Finland meeting last week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Our hosts from the Embassy of Finland in Dar es Salaam provided us with a concise one-day agenda with a great mix of colleagues from not only Dar and Nairobi but also from Addis Abeba and Maputo. This annual gathering aims to focus on joint plans and focuses, searching for synergies on different priorities as well as on potential business delegation visits to the region. #Digitalization 💻 is a big focus and an opportunity for Finland in all of these countries. Also the health sector, bioeconomy and mining are showing strong interest and potential for growth. 📈 As part of the program, we had the pleasure to visit the Dar es Salaam port and the Tanzanian port authority (TPA), where the Finnish know-how was on display through eg. Konecranes and Wärtsilä lifts and machines.

Our economy cannot sustain the endless extraction of resources—it’s time for change! 🌿 Circular economy offers solutions by reducing waste, minimizing environmental impact, and creating a path toward sustainable, carbon-neutral communities. The Nordic Embassies of Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden in Kenya teamed up to visit local businesses making circular economy solutions a reality ♻️ At Mr. Green Africa, where we plastic waste is sorted and transformed into plastic pellets that provide an alternative for virgin plastics. 💡 Sanergy Collaborative where companies like Fresh Life, and Regen Organics unite under a common vision to support safe and sustainable sanitation through circular economy. 🚽 Fresh Life collects sanitation waste, which is then transformed into agricultural products like organic fertilizers by Regen Organics 🌿 📦 At the Finnish Ambassador’s residence, we had lunch with Ecocan, who is revolutionizing post-consumer packaging waste collection for closed-loop recycling. The Nordic Countries believe that circular economy not only strengthens economies, but also health challenges, and long-term sustainability. Thank you to all partners for showing us how innovation can create sustainable, thriving communities! 🌟   Mr. Green Trading Africa Kenya Ltd. • We were excited to visit the construction sites of three upcoming maternal clinics — an important step forward in expanding healthcare access! 🔨 In total 20 new clinics are being built by VAMED Health Projects Finland Oy. It was exciting to see the progress firsthand! 🥼   This initiative is a collaboration between VAMED Health Projects Finland OY and the Kenyan Government, funded through the PIF (Public Sector Investment Facility) instrument. The PIF supports public sector investments in developing countries and leverages Finnish expertise and technology. In this case, a significant portion of the medical equipment and materials are from 14 different Finnish companies. 🤝   The aim of this project is to encourage local women to give birth at the clinics and reduce maternal mortality rates. In the bigger picture, the plan is to increase the amount of women in the workforce, strengthen gender equality and reduce poverty. 👶   During our filed trip, we had the chance to meet with local authorities, builders and nurses from Samburu and Nyandarua counties. We were excited to hear that throughout the program, a total of 40 nurses, midwives and doctors from these clinics participated in a training program at the Oulu University Hospital 👩🏫 The trip was an excellent opportunity for the Kenyan experts to observe Finnish obstetricians and nurses in action, gain insights into Finnish working culture, and exchange ideas and perspectives with their colleagues. A big thank you to the team at VAMED for ensuring the project stays on track. We are excited to see the positive impact this project will have on #MaternalHealthcare in Kenya!

  • The Deputy of the Embassy, Leo, met with the Ecocan🌱 crew this week at Nairobi Garage. Ecocan Africa is a startup founded in 2021, focusing on bottle and can recycling solutions, with an innovative mobile app to make the process super smooth and user-friendly. Both the producer, the seller, and the buyer benefit, when the authenticity and the movement of the product can be checked (in a GDPR-compliant way) - in addition, a deposit to be claimed when returning the can or bottle.   Ecocan's first focus is at the Kenyan market, and then branching out to other countries in the region. They're also working with Finnish PALPA to develop the Finnish recycling system, which already has a very high standard and recycling rate.   Ecocan's mission: make sustainable convenient. The need for a solution like this in the African, Asian and Middle Eastern markets is huge. Can't help but be excited!
