🌟 Great News from BC's After Hours Care Program! 🌟 Our initiative is making a significant impact, connecting over 597,000 patients with urgent care when their family doctor isn't available. In its first year, 584 physicians and nurse practitioners joined, reducing ER visits by 81% and walk-in clinic visits by 58%! Thanks to support from the Family Practice Services Committee and HealthLink BC, we're excited to expand this vital service across BC. With 2,788 virtual encounters already completed, both patients and providers are seeing the benefits. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gq-EtCdx #HealthCareAccess #AfterHoursCare #BCHealth #FPSC #UPCC

Current data collection practices in Canada's #digitalhealth systems largely misrepresent or underrepresent diversity across individuals' socio-demographic factors. This can lead to health inequalities and patients feeling unsafe when receiving care. #Interoperability is the only path to accessing comprehensive data about a person that addresses the full spectrum of health information needs for Canadians and their families, clinicians and care teams, health organizations, researchers and health system decision makers. #LearningHealthSystems embed social accountability into everyday workflows and can inform how governments build bridges across the #digitalhealth divide. The LHS approach has an advantage in addressing #equity in that the model runs counter to cycles of #blameandshame practised in healthcare organizations when a program does not work as intended or, inevitably, when #systemicinequities are revealed. In summary, essential health services should be universally available to a population and those who stand to receive them should have a say in what is on offer, write Kendall Ho, Owen Adams, Ambreen Sayani and Gurleen Cheema in the special issue on Defining “Essential Digital Health for the Underserved”. #digitalhealth #marginalized #underserved #socialdeterminantsofhealth #equitymatters https://lnkd.in/g_4h2Wgb
