Whilst the UK was experiencing sub-zero temperatures last week, our engineers were ensuring that our energy clients were able to keep us warm, keep the lights on and keep providing power to UK industry. When a power-station called us in need of help, we responded. No referring to contracts, no need to make a fuss - our sole focus was to get their defect identified and rectified so that they could keep generating. The importance of our Rough gas storage facility has been underlined across November with a surge in demand caused by the current cold snap and severe weather. 🌡️ This month, Rough has supplied the UK with 4.35Bcf of gas, powering up to 3.8 million homes on some days. 🏠 On 5 November, Rough reached a new record fill level – the fullest it's been since reopening in 2022. Rough provides half of the UK’s total gas storage capacity, ensuring the UK is more insulated against rising gas prices and saving consumers money in the winter months. Funding for 11 commercial-scale hydrogen projects in the UK is encouraging news for the energy transition from last week's Budget. We are ready to play a key role in this vital strand of the journey to Net Zero, with capacity in low carbon and zero carbon fuels set to be significantly increased. We look forward to bringing our expertise to the fore, having honed our in-depth experience of fiscal metering and flow measurement in the oil and gas industry. That sector remains imperative to ensuring a just transition on this journey, and the extension of the windfall tax, also announced by the Chancellor, may stifle the ongoing development and resource deployment required. So many skills, standards and practices will be transferrable from 'black' to 'green', as Technica Ltd itself is an example of. This needs stimulating, not stifling.
