  • 🚗💡 Experience the Autoware Open AD Kit on AWS Batch! Excited to share how the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team leveraged the 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐃 𝐊𝐢𝐭 during their 𝐀𝐖𝐒 𝐫𝐞:𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 to showcase multi-parallel AD/ADAS simulations on multi-container workloads. 🚀 Last year, the Open AD Kit WG team at Autoware presented a fascinating demo at #CES2024. 🌟 Here’s what we did: 1️⃣ Created a hypothetical scenario where an ego vehicle was stuck behind a static obstacle on a two-way road. 2️⃣ Fixed the issue on Autoware’s planning module and verified the updated container behaviour was satisfactory on cloud simulation. 3️⃣ Delivered the fix back to the physical edge device via 𝐎𝐓𝐀 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, demonstrating a seamless cloud-edge connection. 4️⃣ Validated that the updated container performs correct planning behavior—safely maneuvering around the static obstacle while considering oncoming traffic. This 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝-𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 demo quickly became a go-to SDV prototyping tool, with containerized workloads showing the power of connected ecosystems. 💻 Fast forward to AWS re:Invent, where the AWS Batch team took this concept further: ✅ Running 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 with multi-container workloads. ✅ Fine-tuning variables like speed, jerk, and displacement to optimize performance. ✅ 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 with efficient orchestration instead of manual simulations. • 🚀 We had a fantastic time at SDV Europe 2024 in Berlin last week! The conference marked the 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐃 𝐊𝐢𝐭, which drew significant interest across the automotive supply chain. Collaboration was the highlight of our participation. Alongside SOAFEE and the eSync Alliance, we proudly showcased our joint efforts on #OpenADKit while advancing individual agendas. A major theme throughout the event was the industry's shift from traditional software development and validation approaches to modern technologies and methodologies that enable true software-defined vehicle (SDV) development. Discussions underscored the importance of collaboration among automotive OEMs, Tier 1/2 suppliers, technology developers, and system integrators. Initiatives like ours—Autoware Foundation, SOAFEE, and eSync Alliance—offer a path forward, and there's growing anticipation around how the SDV Alliance will foster connections across Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle, SOAFEE, AUTOSAR, and Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐟é 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 As part of our involvement, we hosted a World Café session, diving deep into our work on the Autoware Open AD Kit—a blueprint for autonomous driving that we’ve been developing over the last three years. The session sparked candid discussions, and here are some key insights: 🔹 OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers shared the importance of aligning the tech stack with their specific needs. 🔹 There’s a growing demand for diverse reference implementations that enable Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) for various hardware vendors. 🔹 Careful consideration is required when choosing container technologies for in-vehicle use. 🔹 The proliferation of platforms and toolchains highlights the urgent need for harmonization and compatibility. 🔹 OEMs prefer field-proven reference designs before committing to experimentation. 🔹 Challenges to open collaboration include potential culture clashes, IP ownership concerns, and trust and transparency issues. 🔹 OEMs shared anecdotes about organizational hurdles, lack of responsibility, and risk aversion when adopting new methodologies. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭? We’re already planning events and conferences worldwide for 2025! These activities allow us to gather valuable insights, engage with domain experts, and showcase Autoware’s and member organizations’ offerings to the automotive industry.
