  • The EU Inc is happening!! 👀🚀 To get it done, we need YOUR help: 1) We need everyone, especially European founders, to contact their national politicians and tell them about the urgency of signing the EU Inc into law ASAP. 2) Please try to get onto national media, radio, podcasts, whatever else and talk about how crucial the EU Inc is for the success of startups, innovation and economic competiveness in Europe. The message needs to reverberate all across Europe. Remember: to get this across the finish line, the EU Inc needs to be accepted by the EU Council, that means it needs to be accepted by all 27 national governments. It is therefore vitally important we make our voices heard in all capitals and major cities of Europe. Politicians need to understand that this is a must-do for Europe's future.

European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection

This week in Brussels, I was pleased to receive a copy of The EU Inc Petition alongside my colleague, Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva. Signed and supported by 13,000 signatories, the Petition is a valuable blueprint that will feed into our work on the so-called 28th regime, which promises to make Europe more competitive and prosperous. What does this mean in practice? Today, if a company wants to scale up, it is confronted with different requirements in each Member State - that leads to an overwhelming 27 different rulebooks. We will offer companies the possibility of a 28th regime - one simple and single set of rules across the whole European Union that companies can voluntarily opt into. This will make it easier for companies to operate across the EU and reap the benefits of the Single Market. It will also help keep our Union competitive. This week the Commission also adopted the Competitive Compass – our engine for a more competitive Europe. Europe has significant strengths, including a robust manufacturing base, a highly educated workforce, and a large Single Market. However, we must address our weaknesses to regain competitiveness. The Competitive Compass sets the stage for a more competitive Europe. One pillar of it will be driving our productivity through innovation. This is where the 28th regime comes in as a crucial initiative that will support the growth of European businesses. I am pleased to lead the work on the 28th regime and to help make Europe more competitive. Full details of the Competitiveness Compass can be found here 👇 https://lnkd.in/edGmiCAd

🚀 Big news for European startups 🇪🇺 The European Commission formally launched a high-level task force focused solely on finding solutions for startups. It’s working directly under Ursula von der Leyen, making this a first-of-its-kind initiative at such a political level. Their flagship goal? A pan-European legal entity—aka EU-Inc or the 28th regime. 🌍 A true game-changer that could simplify scaling across borders for startups everywhere. Brussels is serious about startups. Let’s hope they keep the momentum and turn ambition into action🔥 What’s your take? • OK THIS MIGHT BE BIG 👀 For 2025, the European Commission has set up a dedicated workgroup to focus on solutions for European startups. 🇪🇺 It's set up at the highest political level, right next to the EC president Ursula von der Leyen. One of their first goals is a pan-European legal entity – aka 28th regime or EU-Inc. 🚀 As far as we know this is the first time a group like this has been set up at such a high political level to focus on startups. Brussels seems serious about change for startups. Let's hope they keep the momentum. 🔥

At day 1 of Slush, one thing stood out for me. Europe has the talent and ideas to lead the global startup scene. Yet, valuable founders are leaving for the US because regulations are easier there. Andreas Klinger, who founded EU-Inc, points out that there’s no unified European startup ecosystem. Every country has its own rules, which slows down growth for startups. The solution? A single legal entity for startups that works across all EU countries. He envisions one EU registry where you can set up your company and use unified regulations for stocks, compliance, and all the other essentials a startup needs to grow. You’d still keep your HQ in your own country (and pay taxes there) but gain access to the collective knowledge and resources of this EU registry. He compares it to an API, connecting startups with service providers to create value. It’s a straightforward idea, let founders focus on building products instead of navigating legal complexities. And yes, member states still benefit, taxes and revenues remain local. Why does this matter? If we don’t act, Europe risks becoming a “subscription service” for American innovation. Without better infrastructure and funding, startups will keep leaving or we’ll continue relying on American services. Andreas believes Europe can absolutely lead the way. But it’s up to us to make it happen.
