Many people contribute to the defense of human rights in their daily roles, often without realizing it. Teachers who foster inclusive classrooms, social workers who fight for vulnerable populations, and healthcare workers advocating for health equity are all examples of human rights defenders. These individuals may not be acknowledged for their efforts, but their work is essential to advancing human rights. We are still taking nominations for our #IAmAHumanRightsDefender campaign now until December 10th, culminating on International Human Rights Day. Join us in recognizing the everyday defenders of human rights and spreading awareness about the importance of standing up for justice and equality. Together, we can make a difference! https://lnkd.in/g49iEkgT
About us
Mindbridge is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the impact of local, national, and international human rights efforts. Research indicates that up to 95% of our behaviors are unconscious, and that connecting psychological and neurobiological knowledge is essential to creating long-lasting and effective change. By “bridging” human rights work with psychological and neurobiological applied science, Mindbridge programming works to effectively access and engage hearts and minds before inviting them to change. Connection and “bridging” between psychological and neurobiological knowledge is essential to creating long-lasting and effective change. For human rights defenders to find ways to eliminate racist rhetoric and extremist ideology, methods historically steeped in policy and reporting must take a different and far more integrated approach. It is through the integration of science with human rights that we build more effective interventions. Much of what undermines the ability to uphold human rights — rights inherent to all human beings — lies in the establishment, production, and diffusion of difference, bias, racism, discrimination, and dehumanization of social groups. These, as well as other related forms of intolerance, have been studied for decades within the realms of psychology and neuroscience; so too have mechanisms underlying empathy, healing, and empowerment. In all, our understanding of the way in which our cognition gives rise to behavior has come a long way. At Mindbridge, we harness that knowledge in service of human rights worldwide.

No matter where you are in the United States (or North America for that matter), you are on indigenous land. While many celebrate Thanksgiving with the themes of generosity and togetherness in mind, it’s important to remember that many Native American and Indigenous communities view this day is one of mourning. It serves as a poignant reminder of the historical and ongoing struggles faced due to colonialism. This #Thanksgiving, let us take this opportunity not only to reflect on gratitude and community but also on our shared history, commitment to learning, and work towards building a more inclusive future that respects and uplifts Indigenous voices.

Does Thanksgiving feel a little different this year? For many in the United States, this holiday is meant to be one where families come together in a day of feasting and togetherness. However, with Election Day a little more than three weeks prior, Thanksgiving - and other upcoming holidays - can end up being quite politically charged. And this year, emotions may be closer to the surface, and feelings of vulnerability and contention could be on the menu along side the turkey and cranberry sauce. This article from the Mindbridge team dives into the psychology of holiday conflicts, revealing how tribalism fuels disagreements among family members and offering essential strategies for fostering meaningful dialogue. Discover how to navigate politically charged conversations and strengthen your family bonds this holiday season!
