☝️In November 1987, Verena Matthews was frustrated. ⁠ ⁠ 🔔The Salvation Army bellringing season was about to begin in Coos Bay, Oregon, and women’s service organization had never claimed the coveted “Salvation Army Kettle Cowbell” award.⁠ ⁠ “That’s when my big mouth got me in trouble,” Matthews said. “I got tired of hearing that it was the men who did this and the men who did that. Yesterday, we gathered at The Salvation Army Siemon Center with Fondation CMA CGM to distribute 1,500 turkeys and Thanksgiving food staples to thousands of individuals and families facing hunger and food insecurity in Los Angeles. Each family received a turkey and enough food to create a complete Thanksgiving meal for 4-6 people. This incredible effort wouldn’t have been possible without the support of CMA CGM, CEVA Logistics, APL, and Fenix Marine Services volunteers! October was filled with community, celebration and service across The Salvation Army Western Territory! 🎃🍁 From Bellingham’s joyful Harvest Carnival, where nearly 700 came through for a Candyland adventure, to the vibrant gatherings in San Rafael, Torrance and Santa Clarita—the community was at the heart of it all. We also celebrated Cody’s impactful ministry in Santa Clarita and sent blessings for his new journey. In Silicon Valley, PacSci EMC joined us on their Day of Giving, offering crucial hydration support during the heatwave, helping in our Food Pantry and packing supplies for our community in need. In San Diego, seniors enjoyed Bingo Day filled with fun, smiles and community connection! Meanwhile, Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs received volunteer power to clear and revitalize spaces, making way for future support! Northern California resonated with the sounds of brass band music, bringing joy to Sacramento’s Capitol steps and beyond. Washoe County proudly walked in the Nevada Day Parade, honoring its commitment to serving Northern Nevada. Thank you to our incredible volunteers, Corps members and community supporters for making October unforgettable! 🙏
