⏰Today is the FINAL DAY to give for #mariners and #seafarers before the year ends! Your support of SCI is critical and enables all the important work we do year-round to support mariners. In ways big and small, in times of crisis and in defense of their rights, SCI works on behalf of those mariners who work dangerous jobs with such dedication. Mariners know they can depend on SCI—and we depend on YOU! Please, give generously before midnight tonight: https://lnkd.in/g7DxNYVb

No #mariner should feel alone or forgotten on #Christmas! Through our Christmas at Sea program, SCI works with incredible volunteers to deliver handmade knitted and crocheted gifts to mariners who have to spend the holidays away from home and family. These gifts warm the heart, body, and spirit. On Christmas, please don’t forget about the hardworking men and women of the maritime industry who make our modern lives possible. Make a generous Christmas gift today and bring holiday warmth to mariners near and far: https://lnkd.in/e7g_5RCd ⭐ 🎄 #ChristmasAtSea #SeamensChurch

One of the wonderful aspects of these #ChristmasAtSea gifts, especially along the U.S. river system and Gulf Coast, is hearing from experienced mariners who still have the hats or scarves they received when they first started their careers on the water.
I'll never forget spending holidays away from my family while working offshore. One year, a crew member decorated the boat for Christmas and put gifts under the tree for everyone. The gifts were small but meaningful. Today, I have the honor of delivering gifts to mariners. I will pray over them asking God to bless the mariners who receive them with joy and peace. The Seamen's Church Institute annually distributes handmade gifts through the Christmas at Sea ministry to both international and US mariners. My role as a Ministry on the River Chaplain is to deliver the gifts to boats on the Lower Mississippi River and Gulf Region. Today 31 of my 38 boxes arrived. I look forward to getting on the road with the full load this week and making the stops. I have 526 boats worth of gifts to distribute this weekend. To put this in scale, I am just one of many chaplains in various parts of the country distributing gifts. The Christmas at Sea program is an impressive logistical operation. Joanne Kaplan Bartosik of Seamen’s Church manages the process and it's quite amazing how precise and organized the end result is. Many thanks to her leadership in making my role more relationally focused. If you would like to learn more about the program or how to get involved, send me a message.

A shout-out to these Ingram Barge Company mariners in Paducah, KY, who took a little time out to model some of our Christmas at Sea knits, lovingly made by our incredible volunteers. The Christmas at Sea–On the River deliveries are in full swing! #ChristmasAtSea #KnitsForMariners
