Gaming is more than gameplay. In fact, gaming is the canvas for all entertainment. It’s exciting to see these evolving gaming experiences influence other areas of web3 product design. 1- Gaming is big and the future: As gaming provides the open worlds for all entertainment, its revenues has surpassed streaming video ($114 billion), streaming music ($38 billion), and global box-office receipts ($34 billion), combined. 80% of 18-year-olds play games, spending 30% of their total entertainment time. Gaming totalled $196Bn in 2023 revenues, with an expected 6% annual growth through 2028. 2- Gamers want their games across all their devices. 70% of gamers play on multiple devices, and half want seamless access across them. At Decasonic, we are keenly interested platforms and protocols tokenizing #metagames. Chris P. Austen and Paragon have formed aome key partnerships and game play to innovate in this market category. 3- Gaming is the digital world for most. Gamers do more than play games in the game setting. They socialize, shop, and watch videos. Those that are more active more tend to spend more. #Socialgaming is what Zynga brought to the West in the 2010s. Emerging forms of web3 social casual gaming is what Long Do at Anomaly and Chris Liquin at Cupcake are building around their communities. 4- Gamers are co-creating the experience. 79% have played games with user-generated content, and 16% have made content for games. I’m a big fan of what Jana Bobosikova at KIKI World is building in the future of #cocreation with web3. 5- Gaming is creating #Transmedia. Gaming IP transcends other forms of media and other IP is coming into gaming. >50% of gamers watched game-based shows or movies last year, leading to a 28% rise in game users within six months. Le Zhang at Spaceport.xyz is building the frontier of web3 transmedia as they have partnered with top global IP and leading metaverse and gaming platforms. At the Blockchain Futurist Conference in Toronto, executives from World3, Helika, and Anomaly Games discussed the future of Web3 gaming. Long Do CEO of Anomaly Games, emphasized the need to simplify blockchain for users, making it nearly invisible in gameplay. Helika's CEO, Anton Umnov pointed out that on chain games are critical for onboarding users to crypto, with 50% of transactions on some blockchain networks coming from these games. Telegram Messenger is emerging as a major player, potentially onboarding a billion users through its games. With a $50 million gaming accelerator and a $40 million fund for mini-apps, the future of Web3 looks promising.
