About us

We are committed to supporting organizations led by those most impacted by systemic oppression – largely low-income communities of color. The Libra Foundation’s guiding principle is that those who are closest to the issues understand those issues the best. They are not only the most equipped to build solutions, they are the most effective at implementing those solutions. We focus on frontline organizations led by people of color transforming the criminal justice system and advancing environmental and climate justice and gender justice. @thelibrafound

  • New Blog Alert! We are proud to share our most recent blog penned by our Grants Management team: Jenny Herrera (she/her) & Lilia Granillo. Read about their learnings on accelerated grantmaking practices and why it's critical for funders to get beyond crisis funding to sustainable practices that more holistically support grantee partners. Special shout out to Democracy Fund for organizing funders to get resources out early this year through their #AllbyApril campaign. More about that in the blog as well! https://lnkd.in/ezFGadxs

As 2024 comes to a close, we are proud to be awarding Ignacio G Rivera the Lucia Leandro Legacy of Light Award! Each year, the Mirror Memoirs leadership team honors BIPOC LGBTQI+ child sexual abuse survivors who have been using their stories to end rape culture and to move towards collective liberation. This honor is bestowed in memory of LL Gimeno, a trans Afro Latinx femme community organizer, artist, healer and survivor who was a a beloved part of queer and trans communities from Seattle to New York City. He became an ancestor in 2021. Ignacio G Hutía Xeiti Rivera, M.A. is a globally recognized educator, writer, and cultural sociologist with over 30 years of experience in sexual liberation, and community healing. As a Queer, Trans/Genderfluid, Chronically-ill, Black-Boricua, and Taíno activist, they strive to blend theory with practice, creating spaces where sexual liberation and abolition meet seamlessly in daily life. Ignacio’s work focuses on addressing the root causes of sexual trauma, particularly child sexual abuse, and advancing community-led solutions and alternative healing. They are the Founder and Co-Executive Director of The HEAL Project , dedicated to ending childhood sexual abuse and relational trauma. Please join us on Zoom on Tuesday, December 17 (7:30-9:00pm EST / 4:30-6:00pm PST) for the awards ceremony and Mirror Memoirs’ end of year virtual celebration. The event will feature performances by Brianna Tam and Autumn Brown , reflections from our staff and storytellers about our work in 2024, and a look ahead to 2025. RSVP: tinyurl.com/MMHOLIDAY2024 Tickets are free, donations are encouraged. Also, check out our online silent auction. As a sector, we cannot give in to fear, we cannot back down. Our movements need us to fund more boldly and lovingly than ever before. To remember that as difficult as this moment is, our movements triumphed in harder times. This is a time to organize with precision and care, to be grounded in the wisdoms of movements both stateside and abroad who have looked hate and fascism in the face and said no. We have put together reflections to help funders guide their work in the coming days. We invite you to use these reflections as a tool to explore how your institution will show up in a time where our work can truly make the difference. Read our full statement https://lnkd.in/eat8dccN
