A missional community dedicated to making God's love real through conversation, connection, and community change. 🧡

About us

The Portico is a missional community that exists to make God’s love real through conversation, connection, and community change. That mission is at the core of everything we do. From our spiritual community, to our cafe, to our coworking and event spaces, to our many initiatives, we are enhancing the social, artistic, and spiritual fabric of Tampa. The Portico spiritual community is a non-conventional church whose mission is to make God’s love real through spiritual gatherings and practices. Our church is a unique expression of fellowship and worship, where everyone is welcome and questions, diversity, and the search for meaning are celebrated. Our service, the 1001 Gathering, meets every Sunday at 10:01 am, and our small groups (called Joe Groups) meet throughout the week. We are a community of Hyde Park United Methodist. Our social enterprise, The Portico Cafe, offers people transitioning from homelessness, addiction, and incarceration job training, employment ladders, and connections to safe, affordable housing. The cafe is open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm every Tuesday through Friday and is the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat in our convenient downtown location. The Portico is also home to several event and coworking spaces available to rent. Whether you are looking to host a business meeting, a dinner celebration, or even a wedding, The Portico has a space for you. Visit our website for booking information. The Portico missional outreach initiatives include our community breakfast, which is a weekly meal for those experiencing hunger or homelessness, and Portico Housing Solutions, a separate 501(c)3 which houses 6 single, working men who are transitioning out of homelessness. At The Portico, we believe in the power of spiritual practices. That’s why we host regular art, meditation, and yoga groups that meet throughout the week. • After the loss of our beautiful "All for Love" mural in the midst of Hurricane Helene, over 20 volunteers showed up ready to help pick up the pieces. While we are heartbroken, we know that there is hope for new beginnings even in the wreckage. Our hearts and prayers are with all of those devastated by the effects of Hurricane Helene. • 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture is "a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946." Join us as we view this film together, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Pastor Justin LaRosa.

  • Part of our mission at The Portico is to inspire conversation, connection and community change. We not only achieve that mission within our organization but also through the groups we host on campus. C12 of Tampabay has been a long time client inspiring business owners to lead their businesses with Christian principles. By hosting four meetings each month, C12 makes it possible for us to continue our mission of bridging people from brokenness to restoration by providing employment opportunities and training. We had an encouraging, interactive and engaging meeting with our Tampa CEOs group! We reviewed the characteristics of all the major generations in the workforce today and discussed how to create a workplace that engages each generation. We also discussed the important topic of how purpose can unlock engagement—particularly among younger workers. By understanding each generation’s work-life preferences, and what they want from their career, we can unleash the full potential of all employees and maximize the benefits of a diverse workforce in our businesses. #generations #c12
