Lukas has been great to work with, and thanks, Chris for the shoutout. Give the podcast a listen!
Electronics designer, aspiring firmware designer. Head of DevRel and Hardware at Golioth. Co-host of The Amp Hour. Founder of Contextual Electronics and Analog Life Consulting.
Are you ever scrolling linked in and stop on an amazingly compact SIP or board? Or you see a thermal simulation of a PCB that looks awesome? That probably means you're following Lukas Henkel https://lnkd.in/eHKTEG_i He joined me on The Amp Hour Electronics Podcast this week to talk about OV Tech GmbH's #opensourcehardware products like the PiMX8 or their forthcoming SIP with Thintronics®. Lots of great tips on how to create high speed designs and compelling visualizations of #hardware. #electronics #hardwaredesign

The PCB of the open-source SiP has a total thickness of only 0.5mm. This reduced Z-height is made possible by the use of an ultra-thin dielectric from Thintronics® which, combined with a low dielectric constant, allows for very dense routing. The low Dk value and low dielectric thickness allow traces to be routed very close together, limited primarily by the design rules and not by crosstalk as would be the case with a more conventional PCB stackup. I've visualized the layer stack by importing the copper geometry into Blender 3D. The proportions are to scale to emphasize the low dielectric thickness. The first four internal layers are all used for power distribution. As the decoupling capacitors are placed next to the SoC rather than the bottom of the SiP, moving the power planes closer to the top layer helps to reduce the PDN impedance due to the reduced VIA inductance. Signal routing is mainly done on layers 6, 8 and 10. #electronics #hardwaredesign #altium
