  • This week, Carl and Meagan Robson, the Foundation's Collections Manager, visited the Mobile Museum of Art with Mayor Sandy Stimpson to view MMofA's groundbreaking exhibition "1960s Hard Edge & Op Art: Tribute to The Responsive Eye." This exhibition showcases iconic works from the optical art (abbreviated as op art) and hard-edge art movements. Thank you, MMofA team, for your hospitality! Out of the more than 40 works featured, The Thoma Foundation loaned 17 key pieces, including masterworks by op art trailblazers such as Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Gene Davis, and Julian Stanczak. Mobile Museum of Art is celebrating 60 years of creativity with "1960s Hard Edge and Op Art: Tribute to the Responsive Eye," a blockbuster exhibition that recreates the Museum of Modern Art’s (NYC) pioneering show "The Responsive Eye," which coincided with the founding of MMofA in 1964.   This exhibition features works from optical art (abbreviated as op art) and hard-edge movements, as well as artists such as Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Gene Davis, Julian Stanczak, and Frank Stella. For this exhibition, MMofA has secured loans from across the country including the Art Bridges Foundation (Bentonville, AR), Bechtler Museum of Modern Art (Charlotte, NC), Birmingham Museum of Art (Birmingham, AL), Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation (Dallas, TX), and Wiregrass Museum of Art (Dothan, AL).   MMofA Executive Director Jon Carfagno dives into one of the pieces currently on view, so see for yourself what makes this exhibition so special.   Learn more about the exhibition at https://lnkd.in/eNj_3xjh Artwork featured: Gene Davis, American, 1920 - 1985. Blueprint for Riveters I, 1967. Acrylic on canvas. On loan from the collection of the Birmingham Museum of Art; gift of Nancy and John Poyner.

Thoma Bravo Founder and Managing Partner Carl Thoma was honored at this year's SEO Scholars San Francisco Achievement Benefit! Carl was joined onstage by Orlando Bravo for a special fireside chat, where the two Thoma Bravo founders spoke about Carl's journey from his childhood in Oklahoma to a pioneer in the #privateequity industry, as well as his deep commitment to philanthropy through the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation. We were proud sponsors of the annual fundraiser event in San Francisco, which raised $3.3 million for the SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity) program and is anticipated to serve more than 500 high school Scholars in the next year and increase opportunities for underserved and underfunded communities in the Bay Area. Congratulations and thank you, Carl! 🎉

Founder and Managing Partner at Thoma Bravo

It was such a privilege to interview Carl Thoma, my mentor and OG, at the SEO Scholars San Francisco Achievement Benefit. Carl was honored for his remarkable contributions to the private equity industry and his commitment to philanthropy.   Over the past 25 years, Carl taught me most of what I know about investing and philanthropy. From his humble beginnings in rural Oklahoma to becoming a pioneer in private equity and the creator of the buy-and-build approach, Carl's journey is nothing short of inspiring.   Beyond his involvement with SEO, Carl is committed to expanding higher education opportunities for promising students in rural regions in the U.S. Thank you, Carl, for being such an inspiration. It was wonderful to see so many members of the Thoma Bravo team present to celebrate your well-deserved recognition.

The Thoma Foundation has 17 works on view, including paintings and sculptures from Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Gene Davis, Leroy Lamis, Kenneth Noland, Julian Stanczak, Victor Vasarely, and more.
