Our Co-Founder, Julia Zhou attended Climate Week in New York, where she gained valuable insights into the latest global efforts for climate action. Here are some of her key takeaways from the event. #NYClimateWeek #ClilmateAction #Sustainability #TidalImpact
What a blessing it was to be at New York Climate Week for the first time this year! It was a great reminder to me that in-person gatherings are always more powerful because collaboration happens so much faster when genuine relationships and trust are built. 💃🏻 Started my week at the Fin-Erth Women in Climate breakfast hosted by the wonderful Serena O. and Patrick Keogh. It was about celebrating women driving climate action behind the scenes and finding ways to ensure they’re being recognized. There’s something magical that happens when women gather to support each other. Can highly recommend to get involved with this community. 🌱 Later in the week, Tidal Impact partnered with #RegensUnite, led by Chad Frischmann, RegenIntel, Global Solutions Alliance, for an incredible gathering of 228 regenerative leaders to work on a shared vision for a regenerative future. The energy in the room was inspiring— with touching performances by Dr. Lyla June Johnston, Michael Ketigian, and Andrei Matorin. 🌎 Wrapped up the week at The #ReAssembly by Regeneration.VC, which brought together industry experts, corporate leaders, and government officials to dive into topics like biodiversity, circular supply chains, and sustainable finance. Thank you, Michael Smith, for the invitation. Especially loved hearing from people like William McDonough, who talked about the importance of shifting from a focus solely on decarbonization to recarbonizing nature based on Cradle to Cradle principles. It was wonderful to spend quality time with both old and new friends. Sian, Laura, Vaitea, Dave, Veronica, Gerald, Amánda, Linda, Kok, Jean, Will, Ludolf, Christian, Matteo… let’s keep in touch! #NYClimateWeek #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Regeneration #CircularEconomy

𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 r𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴. Through my conversations with clients, one recurring topic is 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in the reporting process. It’s common for employees to be hesitant about what can seem like a tedious task, especially in the early years of reporting. Here are some key challenges and solutions to consider: 𝟭. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: Employees might not see the value of reporting. Sustainability leaders can highlight its importance through workshops, content, and executive messages, showing how transparency drives value for the company. 𝟮. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀: Reporting standards often seem complicated and abstract. Breaking down jargon into simple, everyday language—and showing examples of peer reports—can make the process more approachable. 𝟯. 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: ESG software tools can feel overwhelming. Make sure employees are fully onboarded and trained to maximize your software’s potential and ensure smooth data collection. 𝟰. 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: Reporting can take 4 to 8 months. Setting realistic timelines helps employees stay engaged and avoid the stress of rushed deadlines. 𝟱. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Many employees never see the final report. Ensure your team actually sees the final result. Acknowledge them by showcasing their contributions in the report through spotlights, Q&A sections, or case studies related to their departments. Would love to hear from fellow sustainability professionals on other challenges and solutions 💬 👇 #Sustainability #ESG #EmployeeEngagement #SustainabilityReporting

A few months ago, I went to one of my favorite conferences, Katapult Future Fest, for the second time. 💡 During a workshop with TWIST: Investing for Systems Change, Daniel Almagor introduced the Three-Horizon Framework, developed by Bill Sharpe, and it really resonated with me. 1️⃣ Horizon 1: Triage within the current system 2️⃣ Horizon 2: Transforming from the current system 3️⃣ Horizon 3: Transformation into the new system 💃🏻 As idealists, many of us are eager to jump straight to Horizon 3, but the reality is that transformation is a journey—one that requires us to learn how to dance between the horizons rather than rushing to the finish line. 🌱 In the context of ESG, sustainability, and impact, I see ESG as Horizon 1. It’s about navigating the current system—assessing risks, setting priorities, and understanding how our company’s actions influence society and the environment and vice versa. We clearly need to do much more, but it’s important to recognize that we need to get this right and then transition to a new system guided by principles of regeneration. At Tidal Impact, we help organizations navigate Horizons 1 and 2 to prepare them to then transition to Horizon 3.
