  • If you suffer from ringing ears, you might recognise this scenario: You visit an audiologist or ENT doctor only to find out that they know nothing about tinnitus. We aim to change that, and are attending hearing research conferences around the world to raise awareness on the plight of #tinnitus sufferers. Check out the shockingly low tinnitus knowledge among hearing researchers at the ARO conference, which our volunteers attended last year. Don't despair though, we are working hard to change the situation and educate hearing researchers about tinnitus. The more research on tinnitus, the better chance of finding a cure!

  • Megan is a trooper for the cause! What a great way to spend #TinnitusWeek, spreading the word about our work at the prestigious ARO conference. Not to mention the invaluable networking!

Since Saturday and throughout this week I have the privilege of attending the ARO conference in Anaheim, California on behalf of Tinnitus Hub, an organisation I hold very dear to my heart and am extremely proud to be a part of. Despite Tinnitus effecting a staggering 1 in 7 adults across Europe there is still no cure and it is sadly still an underresearched and underfunded area. Chronic Tinnitus often goes hand in hand with depression, anxiety, suicide ideation and suicide. Given the nature of the condition being that the patient is the only person who hears the persistent sound, in my case a high pitched ringing, it is incredibly lonely and patients are often left to fend for themselves in terms of managing it. It’s bold brother Hyperacusis can also have a nasty debilitating impact with sound becoming physically painful as it hits the eardrum. It’s Tinnitus Week so if you are in any way interested I implore you to educate yourself about this and what you can do to prevent it as the unfortunate reality is many people don’t know how bad it is until it’s too late. I’ll leave some links in the comments. To add, if you could spare a few bucks (someone’s been in America for a hot minute!) then please donate to our charity so we can continue to advocate for the patients voice on Tinnitus research, we are entirely volunteer led (spearheaded by the unstoppable Markku Vesala and Hazel Goedhart)so every little helps. If that's not an option, I'll add a link in the comments of other ways you can support. Finally, if you need support and a shoulder, I’m always happy to have a chat about my own journey and provide any tips or tricks that have worked! #tinnitusawareness #tinnitus #tinnitusweek
