There is now less than a week till #CascadeUp will appear at London Design Festival! Learn more below about this special exhibit, and come say hello, as we will be onsite from Wednesday 18 September till Saturday 21 September. 👇 So what is #CascadeUp and why is it so exciting? While the best way you can find out is to visit next week, we have tried to summarise below. #CascadeUp is the first building-scale demonstration of a #glulam and cross-laminated timber (#CLT) structure created entirely from waste #timber salvaged from demolition. The 3.5 metre-high, 2.5 metre-wide and 2 metre-deep modular structure was designed by UCL's Circular Economy Lab and UK CLT - bringing years of research to life. 🎉 Come down and make the most of Better Bankside's Design District, with #CascadeUp, Material Matters and the Wood Awards all around Coin Street's galleries in OXO Tower Wharf. Great launch event for our pilot building yesterday! Thanks to everyone who joined us. Today the building hopped across town to UCL's Bloomsbury Campus! Please come and see us outside 20 Bedford Way, Thursday 18 July 15.30-19.30, Friday 19 July 10.00-17.00 or Saturday 20 July 10.00-15.00. At the launch event at Here East, I spoke about bringing our #circulareconomy research to life through the pilot. Transforming wood from demolition into ‘glued-laminated secondary timber’ (glulamST) and ‘cross-laminated secondary timber’ (CLST). Then I was joined by our brilliant panellists, Andrea Charlson, James Adams and Laura Batty, for a discussion of new technologies to stimulate a reuse market in construction, chaired by Julia Stegemann. Amazing work Jonas Breidenbach and Patrick Quinn leading the manufacture and assembly - we did it! Bloomsbury takes centre stage for the rest of the UCL Festival of Engineering. Here it comes! Our pilot building demonstrating CLT and glulam manufactured entirely from secondary timber recovered from demolition. It's being exhibited as part of the UCL Festival of Engineering (➡️ https://direc.to/k2T_). First stop, HERE EAST, where it was manufactured. Tonight, we celebrate this world first!
