The University of Maryland Capital Region Health Throughput Change Council has transformed patient care and experience through innovative solutions like the Rapid Medical Evaluation model in our ED, an ‘Expeditor’ role for efficient discharges, and the iHarbor Discharge Planning Tool, HALO. Since January, their efforts have reduced time in “black” status from 84% to 14%—a testament to their dedication to high-quality patient care. Collaborating with the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, this team embodies the power of a “one system” approach, enhancing communication and teamwork across disciplines. Here’s to more progress and improved patient outcomes!

Breaking New Ground for the Future of Rural Health Care We celebrated a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center in Easton, Maryland. This state-of-the-art facility, set to open in 2028, will transform rural health care on the Eastern Shore, delivering advanced services to the five counties UM Shore Regional Health serves. This event brought together community leaders, health care professionals, and elected officials, including: - Governor Wes Moore - Congressman Andy Harris - Maryland State Senators Johnny Mautz and Steve Hershey Key features of the new medical center include: - 122 private patient rooms - 27 emergency treatment bays - Specialty centers for cardiac care, behavioral health, orthopedics, and more - A focus on preventive care and chronic disease management across 2,000 square miles Together, we’re building a healthier future for the Shore.
