I had a great time giving the opening Keynote at #KMWorld 2024 this week in DC, where I reviewed the past & future of Collective Superintelligence. I start with the biology of Swarm Intelligence and cover a decade of research that has led to the current generation of technology that enables very large human groups to amplify intelligence through real-time conversations. It's called Conversational Swarm Intelligence (CSI) and it enables large human groups (hundreds of people) to hold real-time conversations that converge on solutions with significantly amplified intelligence. I also discuss a recent study we conducted with Carnegie Mellon that enables Hybrid Collective Superintelligence (i.e., it brings additional AI agents into large-scale conversational swarms.) FUN QUESTION: Will tonight's Netflix boxing spectacle (Tyson vs Paul) be the 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 to appear on streaming media? Many question why anyone would watch this event. It's not a title fight and boxing has not drawn more than 5M viewers on paid streaming services. At Unanimous AI, we connect large human groups to form "artificial experts" that can answer questions in real-time. This allows us to quickly generate insights from human groups that greatly outperform other methods. We were asked to study viewership expectations for this Netflix event. We did this using our new Thinkscape platform with 100 random sports fans. We predict the answer is YES: this will likely exceed 25 MILLION viewers, making it the most watched sporting event in streaming media history. Unanimous AI does not replace people with algorithms. Instead we use AI to connect large human groups together into super-intelligent systems. Our methods have been shown to outperform polls, surveys and prediction markets because we don't treat people as data-points for aggregation. We treat people as members of real-time deliberative systems. Back in 2020 we were challenged to predict all 11 battleground states in the Presidential Election. As reported in the Wall Street Journal, we correctly predicted 10 of the 11 states, blowing away the polls: https://lnkd.in/gtMajhgq Now it's 2024 and last week we gathered 112 American Voters (of mixed party, gender, region, etc...) in our new Thinkscape AI platform and asked them to deliberate two critical issues regarding the 2024 election. Issue #1: How are American's feeling about the election? The amazing thing about Thinkscape is that it allows large groups to hold real-time conversations and brainstorm together on any topic. So we asked this diverse group of voters to brainstorm SINGLE WORDS that best describe how most Americans feel and debate the alternatives. The results are posted in the image below. I have to say, it was remarkable to see so much agreement among people of different party, background, ethnicity, and region. They all have very similar fears and concerns and criticism about the state of politics in America. Issue #2: Are people being truthful to pollsters, and if not, in which direction are the polls most likely skewed? Again, I was amazed that this diverse group of Americans agreed that many people are hiding their true voting intentions, agreed on the reasons why people feel compelled to do this, and agreed on the direction the polls are most likely skewed by these "shy voters" in the battleground states. Who will win the 2024 World Series and why? At Unanimous AI, we don't replace people with AI, we connect human groups together into super-intelligent systems. It's an annual tradition to use our Collective Superintelligence technologies to predict high-profile events of public interest, often at the request of journalists who want to test our forecasting abilities. This started back in 2016 when a CBS reporter challenged us to predict the Kentucky Derby, not just the winner but the first four horses in order. The outcome of that prediction made national headlines: https://lnkd.in/gWVPZmJK The prediction above was not made by using AI on a massive dataset about horse racing, but by using AI to connect a group of racing fans in real-time and have them function together as a Collective Superintelligence. Of course our technology has advanced since 2016. Our latest platform is called Thinkscape and it enables large groups (up to 400 people) to hold real-time deliberative conversations and converge on optimized solutions. The cool thing about Thinkscape is that it gives far more than a numerical forecast. Because it's conversational, Thinkscape outputs detailed qualitative reasons why the collective intelligence supports that outcome. This makes Thinkscape a great tool for harnessing the intelligence of large groups, enabling teams up to 400 people to brainstorm and deliberate in real-time and converge on deep insights. It's also a remarkable tool for market researchers who want to quickly capture qualitative input at large scale (i.e. qualitative insights at statistical scale!). The video below shows the forecast we did yesterday in Thinkscape for the World Series in which a group of 60 baseball fans debated the issue for ten minutes and quickly converged on a unified outcome. spoiler alert: As shown in the video, Thinkscape strongly predicted the Dodgers will win the World Series this year. At Unanimous AI, we launched our Swarm® platform in 2016, our goal to connect human groups into super-intelligent systems using the power of AI. Below is our latest academic paper performed in collaboration with researchers at Carnegie Mellon and funded by the US Air Force. This new paper just scratches the surface, but shows the benefits of something we’ve been working on for a while – enabling conversational swarms of humans and AI agents as real-time deliberative systems. The study used GPT-4 from OpenAI, but we've also been testing with Gemini from Google and are seeing similar performance when using AI agents to connect large human groups. Have we reached Peak Human? This piece ( https://lnkd.in/g6mFuNtd ) is an expanded version of my VentureBeat article from last week in which I explore this issue. By "Peak Human" I mean the moment in time when AI systems are just as smart as half the humans on planet earth. After that, we will be on a steady decline until eventually all humans, even geniuses, are outmatched by AI. As described in the piece, I believe we are not far from Peak Human by many measures, including basic logic and reasoning. This surprises me, but I can't deny that Open AI's new o1 model does shockingly well on reasoning tests, including IQ tests it has never seen before. Have we reached "𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧?" That's the question I explore in my latest piece for VentureBeat. The answer is not as simple as you may think... My reason for asking this question is that Open AI's new model (o1) has reportedly scored 120 IQ on a Mensa IQ test. As I explain in the piece below, this score is not as "valid" as it seems, but I still believe AI is very close to out-reasoning most humans.
