Our research on SYNtzulu — our tiny, ultra-low-power Spiking Neural Network (SNN) accelerator — has been published in the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I! 🎉 For those who may not know, SYNtzulu is a neuromorphic processor specifically designed for real-time signal processing on highly constrained hardware. We managed to fit a dual-core SNN processor, a RISC-V softcore, I/O interface, and an entire signal processing pipeline into just 5k LUTs on the Lattice iCE40UP5K FPGA! It is no coincidence that SYNtzulu means mosquito in Sardinian, reflecting its lightweight design style. SYNtzulu operates at a remarkable 72 pJ per synapse, demonstrating new possibilities for ultra-efficient neuromorphic computing at the edge. Key results so far: - sEMG gesture classification at 1.7 mW - Single-lead arrhythmia classification at 1.5 mW - iEEG-based continuous hand force and velocity tracking at 9.9 mW Special thanks to EdgeAI and to the whole team: Paolo Meloni, Luca Martis, Matteo Scrugli, Paola Busia, Lorenzo Badas, and Luigi Raffo. None of this would have been possible without your hard work and collaboration! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKNwceQj if you’re interested in the technical details. #SYNtzulu #neuromorphiccomputing #edgeAI #SNN #fpga #TCASI
We have been glad to participate to this important event, here in Cagliari!
Just got back home from the #EEAI2024 conference, coorganized by EdgeAI and other Chips Joint Undertaking and EU projects. We had the pleasure to host the event here in Cagliari. This was honestly very nice: 100+ smart and passionate researchers, sharing ideas about AI at-the-edge and beyond, which happened to be also very cool people. Thanks everybody for visiting, I hope that you have loved this shot of Sardinia. P.S. the week is not over. Tomorrow is for the thematic workshop by INSIDE Industry Association https://lnkd.in/d_dq_QsC
Last week at the CPS Summer School our PhD student Luca Martis won the best poster and presentation for the work "Spiking neural networks for near-sensor processing: an open-hardware experience" he co-authored with Gianluca Leone, Luigi Raffo, and Paolo Meloni. Proud of you!
News from the CPS Summer School: MYRTUS EU tutorial on "Adaptive CNN Execution on Edge FPGAs" has just concluded. Very well done, Francesco Ratto and Federico Manca for the effort of sharing our technologies in such a stimulating environment.
News from the CPS Summer School: yesterday Luca Martis presented the paper "Spiking neural networks for near-sensor processing: an open-hardware experience" he co-authored with Gianluca Leone, Luigi Raffo, and Paolo Meloni. Many questions and positive reactions to this work. Very well done, Luca!
Next week will be very busy for some of the EOLAB members. Professor Francesca Palumbo will coordinate the 6th edition of the CPS Summer School. Dr. Francesco Ratto will be giving a #tutorial on #AI at the #edge technologies using the latest release of the #MDC tool (https://lnkd.in/dV97kATF) developed within the MYRTUS EU project, and Dr. Luca Martis will be presenting a #paper at the #CPSWorkshop (https://lnkd.in/dBHF8PHe), which is co-located with the summer school. Stay tuned!

H2TRAIN is active now, check it out!
🚀 Exciting News from H2TRAIN! 🚀 We're thrilled to announce the official launch of the H2TRAIN project, marked by our Kick-off Meeting in Gran Canaria, Spain, May 21-24, 2024. 🇪🇸 Funded by the European Union and led by The Institute for Applied Microelectronics, Univ. of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. H2TRAIN is an innovation action, more precisely, a Joint Undertaking Innovation Action under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, in the Non-Initiative (former KDT) of the Chips JU. The research and innovation in H2TRAIN address the enabling digital technologies in holistic health-lifestyle supported by artificial intelligence (AI) networks. H2TRAIN is focused on the major challenges and priorities of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for the Electronic Components and Systems of the European industry: health and wellbeing and digital society. In H2TRAIN a number of advanced wearable devices and biosensors are integrated into textiles for monitoring physiological signals, including biomarkers. The physiological signals are pre-processed by AI on the edge, and by digital twins in the cloud while health or sport experts monitor the evolution of individuals. 🏊♀️ 🚴♀️👟🏥 👵 Thank you to all partners from across Europe: together we'll make a significant impact on the global wearable tech market!
