Kids shouldn’t have to pull through like this. 💔 While kids in America pull sleds through the snow for fun, kids in Gaza are pulling through rubble, carrying heavy loads of water or food—if they’re lucky enough to find any. No child should live like this and winter makes everything worse. Israel’s ban on UNRWA threatens to cut off the lifeline these kids depend on. As refugee children face freezing nights in flooded shelters without warm clothes or shoes, we Americans have the power to do something. TAKE ACTION NOW: Join UNRWA USA’s #HandsOffUNRWA campaign to protect Palestine refugee lives. Urge your representatives to support US legislation that aims to restore US funding to UNRWA. Visit https://lnkd.in/e6GWyxme to learn how you can take action this holiday season and show Palestine refugees that Americans care.

  • As we close out this year, we’re sharing our 2023 Annual Report. Since October 2023, the world has changed in ways we never thought possible, but what hasn’t changed is the compassion and solidarity that keep us going, even in the hardest times. Your impact is inspiring. Check out https://lnkd.in/d9Mck2Tz for the full thing – it’s way better than your Spotify Wrapped. 🎥 @dotlemonfilms

  • 🗣️ "UNRWA is like an artery. It's what keeps us alive." Join UNRWA USA in declaring: #HandsOffUNRWA now! As the Israeli Knesset (parliament) moves to sever ties with UNRWA, the future of the agency’s vital services—and the lives of Palestine refugees they sustain—hangs in the balance. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, warns that without UNRWA: 👉🏽 The ban threatens the education of 650,000 children in the Gaza Strip and 50,000 in the West Bank, with long-term consequences for their futures. 👉🏽 Half a million Palestine refugees would be deprived of essential primary health care. In places like Kalandia refugee camp, occupied West Bank, and beyond, UNRWA schools, clinics, and training centers are lifelines for Palestine refugees. This NPR story shares the voices of those most in danger and shows why we must act now.

  • REMINDER: UNRWA is still operational and very-much on the ground in the Gaza Strip, providing at least 50% of the humanitarian aid. For Palestine refugee families in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem, UNRWA is a lifeline. We need your help to keep it that way. In less than 90 days, millions of refugees now face the potential loss of UNRWA support in an already catastrophic situation. Join UNRWA USA in standing against this outrageous and unjust ban on UNRWA and raise our voices in declaring #HandsOffUNRWA, as we demand recognition of UNRWA’s irreplaceable role. TAKE ACTION: Visit https://lnkd.in/e6GWyxme to access our digital advocacy toolkit to take action against the UNRWA ban. #HandsOffUNRWA

  • We’re honoring heroes who inspire us with their love for Palestine—those with us and those we’ve lost. In this video, we honor Motaz Azaiza, the brilliant photojournalist whose journey with UNRWA USA began as a young photographer capturing life in Gaza. This tribute, originally created for our Gaza Through My Lens tour, highlights his dedication to sharing Gaza’s beauty and resilience with the world. We also remember heroes we’ve lost this last year like the late Dr. Refaat Alareer (who is mentioned in the video), a brilliant academic, professor, poet, and Chef Mahmoud Almadhoun, the brother of our dear colleague Hani, co-founder of the Gaza Soup Kitchen who was one of the last humanitarians standing in north Gaza.   Tag someone who inspires you in the comments as we reflect on the everyday heroes in our lives. 🌹

  • With shattered hearts, we mourn alongside our UNRWA USA colleague, Hani Almadhoun, as he and his family face another devastating loss. This morning, Hani’s brother, Mahmoud, was targeted and killed by the Israeli military in Gaza as he was preparing to serve food to thousands in need. Chef Mahmoud, as he came to be known by the thousands he served daily over the last year, was a lifeline for his community. In addition to cooking wholesome meals for his community in their hour of greatest need, he also supplied critical aid to doctors, hospital staff, and patients at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. As one of the last men and humanitarians standing in northern Gaza delivering food aid, Chef Mahmoud remained unwavering in his determination to offer hope and support to his community – an area in Gaza that has been largely cut off from humanitarian aid over the last two months by the Israeli military. In fact, out of the 91 attempts the United Nations has made to deliver aid to besieged north between October 6th and November 25th, 82 have been denied and 9 impeded. Just yesterday, Chef Mahmoud shared how he was preparing to bring aid to those around him. Today, he is gone, leaving behind seven children, including his eldest who was shot in the eye and groin by an Israeli quadcopter drone just days ago and his youngest who is just two weeks old. This loss comes on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the tragic killing of Hani’s younger brother, Majed, his sister-in-law, and four of their children, all killed by an Israeli airstrike on their family home in Gaza last November. Mahmoud’s death deepens the immense grief that Hani and his family have already endured. This senseless loss is part of the broader, devastating toll of what experts know to be an ongoing genocide against Palestinian civilians, including the more than 249 UNRWA humanitarian aid workers who have been killed at the hands of the Israeli military. At UNRWA USA, we mourn this loss and honor Mahmoud’s legacy of service, resilience, and love for his people. His life was taken, but his impact endures. We remain committed to our mission to support Palestine refugees, honoring Mahmoud and Majed’s memories. Our deepest condolences go to the Almadhoun family and all those grieving in these unimaginable times. Rest in power and in light of our collective love for you and your family Mahmoud. May your memory be eternal.
