A huge congratulations to Lisa Je for being inducted the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society! A member of Prof. Reid Van Lehn's Research Group, they are one of five outstanding scholars inducted into the chapter at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Along with their research and studies, they strive to cultivate a research environment inclusive and welcoming for students of all identities. They do this by serving on the Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association (ChEGS) and Graduate Engineering Research Scholars (GERS) in several roles over the past few years for outreach, mental health education, and recruiting to bring underrepresented undergraduate scholars across the nation to visit UW-Madison College of Engineering. #phdresearch #graduatestudent #gradstudent #gradschool #honorsociety

UW-Madison Chemical and Biological Engineering sophomore Mihir Patil is working in my group this semester on simulations of blood flow in the microcirculation. Congrats to Mihir and all of our undergraduate researchers on your great presentations at our undergraduate research poster session this afternoon!

A remarkable career of UW-Madison Chemical and Biological Engineering alum, Prof. David Mooney. On Wisconsin!
“In my mind, there are two types of academic labs. There are mission-oriented labs...Then there are labs where the main product is not the papers or the discoveries. It’s actually the people,” explains David Mooney. This focus on people has yielded incredible results for this Wyss Core Faculty member, whose recent birthday symposium included nearly 80 lab alumni, and whose contributions to science include a cancer vaccine for melanoma licensed by Novartis and a slug-inspired medical adhesive approaching clinical trials. Read more about Mooney in this profile from Harvard Magazine. #MooneyLab #Biomedicine #Bioengineering #Faculty https://lnkd.in/gcDKinsb

Meet Whitney Loo! An avid road cyclist, she joined our department in January 2023. We're so glad to have her! Happy almost 2-year anniversary! To learn more about her work, visit her website: https://lnkd.in/eBf8T_uA #phdresearch #chemicalengineering #materialscience

Meet Carlos Huang-Zhu, a grad student in our department and a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow. His research focuses on using molecular simulations to study nano-bio interactions. Specifically, he designs nanoparticles coated with chemical molecules that possess modular groups which he modifies to study how different chemistries modulate thermodynamic and mechanistic processes with lipid bilayers. "Without a doubt, being able to actually see what’s happening at a molecular scale. With my research, I can provide those explanations with quantitative metrics and visual support through simulation snapshots and videos." Congrats to Joshua Abraham for successfully defending his PhD thesis entitled "Unlocking the Potential of Cyanobacterial Metabolism for Green Bioprocesses." He is now off to Massachusetts to teach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For his first semester, he'll be teaching Mass and Energy Balances, and Separations. Good luck on your next adventure Joshua! #phdresearch #chemicalengineering

👏 👏 👏
Extremely proud of Lisa Je (PhD student that I co-advise with Reid Van Lehn) for being inducted to the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society. The Bouchet society is a national network composed of scholars who demonstrate academic excellence, foster supportive environments, and serve as leaders and advocates for students traditionally underrepresented in academia. Lisa's efforts and passion have been transformative in fostering a sense of community and inclusiveness in our Department (UW-Madison Chemical and Biological Engineering) and in the UW-Madison College of Engineering at large. We have been extremely fortunate to have Lisa in our institution. More info: https://lnkd.in/g75WJXtV On Wisconsin! #academia #phdresearch #engineering
