Two weeks ago, Jeffery Wu and I made 100+ audience members dance to the 'YMCA.' Why? To prove people can't count. As a dancer and previous musician, I've been exposed to 8-counts and understanding musical beats for years, however, this is not universal for those who are just dipping their toes in the dance world. That’s why we created TEMP8—an app that simplifies dance by breaking down choreography into 8-counts, making it accessible for everyone, even if you don’t have a musical background. We're still hard at work refining the app and getting it ready for release with features such as mirroring, speed control, looping, and flashing beats. Want a demo? Tomorrow, the Wave RF team's mission goes back where it started: The Big House. What started as a side project to let a couple of radio enthusiasts send texts in the student section has grown into a blossoming organization obsessed with breaking adventurers away from the chains of centralized infrastructure, and showing off the potential of building hard tech in SE Michigan. The world needs problem solvers, but it can #LookToMichigan
You're in The Big House (or Coachella, or NASCAR, or some other gathering of 100,000 m̶o̶b̶i̶l̶e̶ d̶e̶v̶i̶c̶e̶s̶ people). Telcos erect cell towers to handle the expected surge in traffic. Doesn't matter. You can't send or receive so much as a txt message. No signal. You sprain your ankle in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest (or Muir Woods, or Yellowstone, or somewhere off-grid). Oops, no signal. You're within range of another mobile device, which is in range of another mobile device, etc. Doesn't matter. You still can't send or receive a message. A couple bright UM CoE students want to fix that. Wave RF's "Clip" device can bounce a message from your mobile device to another, to another, until it finds it's way to a signal. But will it work in The Big House? We'll find out tomorrow, when Wave RF tests a fleet of Clip devices at the UM-NWU game.
