As Congress evaluates year-end policies, preserving value-based care incentives should be a top priority. It's essential to continue Medicare's support for value-based care. Recently, the Alliance for Value-Based Patient Care spearheaded a letter where 22 organizations urged congressional leaders to extend these incentives, freeze qualifying thresholds, and halt the scheduled cuts in Medicare’s physician payments.

Combining value-based care with technology can improve the health of patients and generate long-term savings, as Premier Inc. demonstrated when they partnered with Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based St. Luke's University Health Network. The benefits to the 45,000 patients in SLUHN’s accountable care organization include a drastic reduction in wait times for breast-cancer diagnosis: 48 hours, compared to a national average of 26 days. St. Luke’s generated $38 million in savings in 2022 without sacrificing care to Medicare patients. More from America's Essential Hospitals: https://bit.ly/3YSihEc

More than 200 members of the House of Representatives on both sides of the aisle are urging Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to stop the looming cut to Medicare payments to prevent disruptions to vital patient care. Unless Congress takes action, the cuts will delay the transition to value-based care and hurt patients in underserved and rural areas.
