Eye-opening article from Karl Miller Lugo, MBA on the labor shortage in fundraising. From the article: Nonprofits need more fundraising capacity Among the more striking figures from the survey, though also among the least surprising, is that nearly two-thirds of organizations responding stated that they could use more capacity and knowledge when it comes to finding grant support (our survey focused mostly on institutional grant funding as opposed to individual donations). Almost 13% said that they need “a lot of help.” On the upside, almost nobody said, “We don’t know where to start.” Most of the people who responded (61%) rely only on their staff to raise funds, with about a third using a mix of staff and consultants. In terms of where the need exists, a couple of themes emerged in the comments and follow-up conversations with respondents. One is that most development staff have a lot on their plates. Even the dual need to raise money from individual donors and grantmaking organizations requires very different sets of activities. And that’s not to mention more specialized streams of funding such as government grants, galas or capital campaigns.
