We're thinking of the future for a new project that we are excited to launch! By 2050, the population in Central Puget Sound is expected to grow by 1.5 million people to an estimated 5.8 million who will call this place home. With this, there are several major infrastructure projects either identified or in the early stages of development with planning efforts that are separate from one another, including: 🚄 Potential ultra-high-speed rail to connect British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon 🛫 A third commercial airport 🛣 I-5 preservation and mobility enhancements A holistic picture is needed for decision-makers to understand the tradeoffs and considerations for the future of Cascadia mobility to support the anticipated needs. Led by Cecilia Aragon, PhD, with Vishnupriya Napa Ravikumar, Andrea Figueroa from University of Washington Human Centered Design & Engineering and Ryan Avery, the team will incorporate regional planning data into a visualization platform, evaluate travel times and costs for individual households, and evaluate passenger air travel demand, cost, and availability. Traffigram, a #CoMotionSupported University of Washington spinout, transforming the way the world looks at travel by increasing accessibility for people of all abilities, recently secured $100,000 in funding from the Washington Research Foundation as part of a Phase 1 technology commercialization grant. The company, co-founded by Professor Cecilia Aragon from the UW's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering, develops novel data visualization techniques to help transportation planners communicate accessibility and travel time. Congratulations to the team! https://lnkd.in/g3_deq9p
