We are pleased to announce that Marissa Balonon-Rosen has joined our team as an Associate. Marissa practices criminal defense as well as employment law, bringing extensive experience in public defense and a deep commitment to advocating for justice. Before joining Vladeck, Marissa practiced public defense for over five years at the The Bronx Defenders in the South Bronx, the New Hampshire Public Defender in Manchester, and the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Ketchikan. Throughout her career, she has defended hundreds of juveniles and adults facing charges across a wide spectrum of misdemeanors and felonies, from DUIs to homicide. Marissa has also served as a mentor to new attorneys and supervised law students from institutions like Columbia Law, CUNY Law, and Brooklyn Law. Marissa earned her law degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, where she was an Equal Justice Scholar, and holds degrees from the University of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music. Since it is National Pro Bono Week, we'd like to highlight our partner emerita Debra Raskin for her decades of great success in the legal industry, and in particular, her dedication to pro se litigants. "I have always known how difficult it is for pro se individuals to navigate the legal system," Debra said. "What I did not know is how even an hour session with a volunteer lawyer can help those litigants on a path to resolution." Jimmy advocates passionately for our clients who challenge unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other workplace mistreatment. During law school, Jimmy interned for the United States Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor and a boutique employment law firm. These experiences shaped his desire to pursue a career protecting workers’ rights. Following law school, Jimmy was a litigation associate at a regional law firm.
