Afgelopen zaterdag vond in Aruba de O'STAD200 Incubator Shark Tank Pitch Competition plaats. In totaal waren 16 Arubaanse start- en scaleups door Impact Hub Aruba klaargestoomd om hun Pitch Deck te presenteren en de jury, bestaande uit zeven ‘Sharks’, te overtuigen van de potentie van hun bedrijf. Plaatsvervangend Vertegenwoordiger van Nederland in Oranjestad, Vincent Storimans maakte deel uit van de jury en mocht meedenken over de verdeling van het prijzengeld à AWG 30.000 onder de deelnemende start- en scaleups. Bijzondere dank aan jurylid Michael D. die speciaal vanuit Silicon Valley naar Aruba is gereisd om dit project te ondersteunen. Michael Dooijes is Startup Liaison bij het Nederlandse consulaat-generaal in San Francisco. A total of 16 Aruban start-ups and scale-ups were prepared by Impact Hub Aruba to present their Pitch Deck and convince the jury, consisting of seven ‘Sharks’, of the potential of their company. Deputy Representative of the Netherlands in Oranjestad Vincent Storimans was part of the jury and was allowed to think about the distribution of the prize money of AWG 30,000 among the participating start-ups and scale-ups. Brian Nicols, de adjunct-onderminister van de Verenigde Staten voor zaken van het westelijk halfrond, en de Amerikaanse Consul-generaal John McNamara waren onlangs te gast bij de Vertegenwoordiging van Nederland in Willemstad. Vertegenwoordiger Edson Hato, die het duo ontving, blikt terug op een fijne kennismaking met de heer Nicols en een aangenaam gesprek waarbij verschillende onderwerpen van gemeenschappelijk belang werden besproken. Zowel Hato als Nicols en McNamara kijken uit naar de verdere samenwerking. ~ Brian Nicols, the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States, and the American Consul General John McNamara were recently guests at the Representation of the Netherlands in Willemstad. Representative Edson Hato, who received the gentlemen, looks back on a pleasant introduction to Mr. Nicols and a good conversation in which various topics of mutual interest were discussed. The annual celebration traditionally consisted of a lunch and a speech competition.

Previously, a sailing day was organized for relations in Curaçao and now also in Aruba. Vertegenwoordiger van Nederland, Edson Hato, woonde gisteravond een receptie bij het paleis van de Gouverneur bij ter ere van het bezoek van de President van de Republiek Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi. Dit is het eerste officiële bezoek van een Surinaamse president aan Curaçao. Dinsdag arriveerde President Santhoki samen met een delegatie, waaronder de Surinaamse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, International Business en Internationale Samenwerking op Curaçao. Gilmar Pisas.   ~   Representative of the Netherlands, Edson Hato, attended a reception at the Governor's Palace last night in honor of the visit of the President of the Republic of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi. This is the first official visit of a Surinamese president to Curaçao. On Tuesday, President Santhoki arrived in Curaçao together with a delegation, including the Surinamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation. The photo shows Mr. Hato together with the President of Suriname and the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gilmar Pisas.

Eelco Boomsma new Head of the Representation of the Netherlands in Philipsburg   Philipsburg – Eelco Boomsma (48) will be the new Head of Office of the Representation of the Netherlands in Philipsburg, as well as the Deputy Representative of the Netherlands in Sint Maarten. Boomsma succeeds Chris Johnson, who left the Representation of the Netherlands earlier this year, and will start his duties in Sint Maarten as of January 6th, 2025.   From 2020 to 2024 Boomsma worked as Embassy Counsellor Strategy and Regional Affairs at the Dutch Embassy in Singapore. He also held various positions in the Netherlands at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the field of politics, administration and international cooperation. He previously also worked at the Dutch embassies in Cairo and Paris, among others.   He studied Archaeology and Cultural History of Central and South America at Leiden University, where he graduated in Caribbean Archaeology after fieldwork on the islands of Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante. Eelco also holds a Masters in History of International Relations from the London School of Economics.   “The relationship between the four countries of the Kingdom is important and benefits from a strong representation that works well together. I am therefore looking forward to becoming part of the network of Dutch Representations in the Countries with the team in Sint Maarten and to seek connections with partners in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten”, says Boomsma.   Edson Hato, Representative of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, is looking forward to working with Boomsma. “I look forward to acting even more as a bridge together with my entire team, spread across the countries, to strengthen the relationship between the countries in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and the Netherlands.
