Charlene Hampton Holloway: A Legacy of Courage and Education Tracing Black genealogy in the U.S. often reveals the complexities of identity. For Charlene Hampton Holloway, this quest began at age 13, ignited by witnessing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lead Civil Rights marches in Atlanta, GA. Inspired by those experiences, Holloway became an activist, joining the NAACP and CORE, and even facing arrest during Louisville’s peaceful protests in 1961. Her passion for justice didn’t waver. Three years later, she joined 10,000 others in Frankfort, KY, marching alongside Dr. King. Today, Holloway reflects on how those formative years shaped her purpose and dedication to uplifting others through education and storytelling. As an author and public speaker, Holloway continues to champion Black history, civil rights, and lifelong learning. At 75, she enrolled at Simmons College of Kentucky, an HBCU, and is now pursuing a degree in Organizational Leadership at the University of Louisville. Her journey is a testament to resilience, showing her family and the world that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and inspire. 📕 Go to the link in our bio or visit www.VOICE-TRIBUNE.com to read the full article! Chef Gary Palm: Culinary Visionary at the Brown Hotel Chef Gary Palm, the new executive chef at Louisville’s iconic Brown Hotel, blends artistry, tradition, and innovation. With 30 years of global experience in eight countries, Palm is refreshing the menus at J. Graham’s Café and The Lobby Bar & Grill while honoring the Brown’s history (yes, the Hot Brown remains!). Palm’s standout dishes include a refined New England lobster in clarified butter with Buddha’s hand and verbena petals and Red Snapper paired with Carolina golden rice and a vibrant Thai basil beurre blanc. His culinary journey began humbly as a dishwasher in Massachusetts before earning a scholarship to Johnson and Wales and training in Michelin-star kitchens across the globe. Palm’s philosophy centers on food as an experience: “Dining should bring people together. It’s not just about hunger—it’s about connection.” His dishes, from cilantro blossoms to abalone shells cradling crab salad, are crafted to inspire and engage. Whiskey 101: What You Need to Know We’ve all heard, “There’s no such thing as a stupid question,” but when it comes to Bourbon and Whiskey, some questions raise eyebrows—like, “Are all Bourbons Whiskey and are all Whiskies Bourbon?” Let’s break it down. What Is Whiskey? Whiskey is a spirit made from fermented grain, distilled below 190 proof, aged in oak, and bottled at no less than 80 proof. It’s unique among spirits for its grain base and mandatory oak aging. Global Styles Whiskey is made worldwide, with five primary families: American, Canadian, Irish, Japanese, and Scotch. Each follows its own regional rules while adhering to the global Whiskey standard. For example, Bourbon must be 51% corn, while Single Malt Scotch uses only malted barley. Flavor Differences Whiskey flavors come from five sources: grain, water, fermentation, distillation, and aging. Old World Whiskeys (Irish, Scotch) lean grain-forward, while New World Whiskeys (Bourbon, Tennessee) highlight oak influence. Distilleries fine-tune these elements to create unique profiles. No Two Are Alike Even within categories, no two Whiskeys are the same. For instance, all Bourbons follow the same rules, but brands like Woodford Reserve stand out by customizing their production processes. Apples and Oranges Comparing Whiskeys across types is like comparing soccer to American football—they’re distinct but equally worth appreciating. Next up, we’ll explore what makes Bourbon special. Cheers! 🥃 📕 Go to the link in our bio or visit www.VOICE-TRIBUNE.com to read the full article! Free to sign up and subscribe! 🎉 Anna DeBeer: A Legendary Career in the Making! 🏐❤️ By any measure, Anna DeBeer has had an incredible journey as an All-American outside hitter for the University of Louisville. With back-to-back Final Fours, a national championship appearance, and a shelf full of individual accolades, she’s solidified herself as a legend in Cardinal volleyball history. Despite earning her degree last spring, Anna chose to return for a fifth year, pursuing her MBA and chasing the ultimate goal of bringing her team to the NCAA Final Four — hosted in her hometown at the KFC Yum! Center. But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Anna faced early struggles this season, but her determination and work with a team sports psychologist have helped her refocus and return to peak form. Now leading her team in kills, digs, and points, she’s showing why she’s an irreplaceable leader on and off the court. With a killer supporting cast, including All-American libero Elena Scott, transfer star Charitie Luper, and rising stars like Nayelis Cabello, the Cards are poised to make a deep tournament run. Their brutal schedule has prepared them, and their sights are set high as they approach the postseason. As Anna puts it: “I want it to end with a big bang.” 🔥 The city of Louisville is ready to cheer on this team as they chase history. Let’s rally behind them as they aim for another Final Four and maybe even the championship title! 🏆 📕 Go to the link in our bio or visit www.VOICE-TRIBUNE.com to read the full article!
