Today, the Biden-Harris administration set a new U.S. climate target to achieve 61 to 66% below 2005 levels by 2035. This target is the country's nationally determined contribution to the Paris Agreement. With expected rollbacks in federal climate progress in the next four years, bold action from states and local governments remains crucial in reducing pollution, achieving a clean energy economy, and environmental justice. We applaud Washington Gov. Inslee, as part of the US Climate Alliance Governors pledging to work collectively with states and local governments to achieve this goal. We're looking for a Southwest Washington Comprehensive Plan Contractor! This role facilitates and organizes public engagement to include diverse voices in the Comprehensive Planning Process at Clark County and the City of Vancouver. They will work with current and new local organizational partners and volunteers to ensure robust community engagement in ways that align with organizational goals of Washington Conservation Action. The Comprehensive Plan Contractor will be compensated at a rate of $25 per hour for 20-30 hours per week until June 30, 2025. The Contractor will submit invoices in 30-day increments and bill for services in quarter-hour increments. The Contractor will receive a form 1099 for services billed over $600. https://lnkd.in/g3-7y4KH

WCA and a coalition of local governments, and environmental, climate, and health advocates from across the state filed a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of Washington State Ballot Initiative 2066 (I-2066). "I-2066 jeopardizes the ability of local governments and other entities to promote clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; it undermines programs that promote the construction of energy-efficient buildings; and it would make the clean energy transition chaotic and more expensive, especially for low-income households" Read more: https://lnkd.in/gUdGrq6Q

Tribute to the Orca is out now! Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gS8baWX2 Earlier this year during Orca Action Month, Se’Si’Le, an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization based in the Bellingham area collaborated with Salish Sea and Northern Straits Native Nations and NGOs to host an Indigenous-centered event in June at the Seattle Aquarium. We’re excited to share this moving short film highlighting this event and additional interviews. Tribute to the Orca shares Indigenous communities' ancient kinship with orcas and salmon, and the importance of reciprocity in our relationship with our caretaker: Mother Nature.
