Axios spotlights WIT classes in an article by Mimi Montgomery! She writes: "My classmates and I were a mix of journalists, policy peeps and consultant-y types there to have fun, not to hard launch ourselves as Bowen Yang 2.0... As grown-ups, we often repress the imaginative playfulness and openness we had as kids, writing off these urges as embarrassing or dumb. But that means we cut ourselves off from opportunities to grow and create — dream jobs and passion projects and wild adventures." https://lnkd.in/eV2ibxWU

WIT teacher and performer Clyde Thompson: "I encourage everyone to try improv because there is something to get out of it for everyone. From becoming a better listener, to thinking and reacting authentically, to exploring the depth of your emotions. If you want to be more comfortable with public speaking or even pursue a career as an actor or comedian, improv has something to offer everyone. We all owe it to ourselves to try." https://lnkd.in/epcUEywU

Improv is magic!
Founder/Consultant | Sports + Social Impact | here to help with strategic partnership, marketing and communications opportunities
The most magical thing happened tonight and I don’t have a video of it, but I’ll never forget it as long as I live. I’m writing this now so I don’t forget the moment before I’m asleep. My level 1 improv comedy class from the fall semester got back together tonight for a holiday potluck. We ate, we laughed, and then before saying goodbye, one of my students broke out her ukulele and announced she wrote a song. For me. It was called “Because of Her” and as she performed it, the lyrics melted my heart into a million pieces. I don’t want to embarrass her so will just leave it at that but it was one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. Teaching improv comedy this year with Washington Improv Theater has been the most unexpected gift. Three semesters of L1 students (all pictured), all uniquely talented and each class like a fingerprint. A snowflake. A moment in time. 1 of 1. Never before. Never again. Teaching improv is barely a blip on my profile. It’s got nothing to do with anything other than it’s got everything to do with what matters: people. I am humming that beautiful song to myself and smiling… because of them.

Washington Improv Theater reposted this
After a very long and heavy week, so magical to have an evening of laughs and love with these wonderful humans - so incredibly proud of my level 1 improv comedy students for their fantastic showcase performance tonight Washington Improv Theater! So many stage fears conquered because they had each others’ backs! Connection and community and being there for each other will always win. Also, as many of my students chatted about over pizza and drinks after their show - it was incredibly refreshing to spend two months with a group of people and not spend any time talking about what each other does professionally. It’s a rarity in a town like #WashingtonDC where “what do you do?” is an opening line in nearly every conversation. They all saw each other as people first, not as their job title. We could all use a little more of that. #improv #comedy #youaremorethanyourjob

In so many ways, Improv really can be good for what ails you.
When I watch a showcase performance of an intro class at WIT, I see people who all found a playful spark in each other, and in themselves, that many of them had not attended to for a long time. Helping people reconnect with their playful humanity and connect with others is way up there on the list of awesome stuff we get to do at WIT. If you think more laughter and connection could be what you need, we've got classes enrolling now. witdc.org/learn

"A big part of improvisation is trying to find ways to say yes to things instead of saying no. Improv gives you a different perspective on how you move through life." WIT Artistic/Executive Director Mark Chalfant is in today's Axios, sharing a bit about the beginnings of his career at WIT and advice for those seeking a job in the arts.
