Sustainability is at a wonderful intersection of creativity and empathy, working to find solutions that meet people where they’re at. It’s a joy and privilege to be in a role where I get to do that work every day and develop new programs that make sustainability more convenient, affordable, and approachable for people in Chicago and beyond. I am lucky to work with an incredible team that embodies those values and it’s wild to think that the best of that work is still ahead. Thank you to all who have made this time so meaningful. I look forward to many more years with WasteNot, Inc.!

This Thanksgiving, Americans will waste ~312 million lbs of food, the equivalent of driving your car 73,109 times around Earth's equator and wasting 156,980 Olympic-sized swimming pools full of water, according to ReFed. Sharing some of my tips on how to do your part to mitigate an emissions-high holiday👇 1. Plan Ahead 🤔 Plan carefully to avoid overbuying, check your pantry for inventory prior to shopping, and survey what items your guests want. 2. Streamline your Meal 🚀 Only one person wants the sweet potato casserole this year? Skip the big dish and make one sweet potato for whoever wants it. Not into the traditional Thanksgiving meal? Call it a petite Thanksgiving like I'm doing this year and enjoy French food. 2. BYOT (Bring Your Own Tupperware) 🙌 Even the best planned meal can end up with leftovers. Bring your own Tupperware or glass container(s) to limit use of plastic bags and single-use to-go containers. 3. Compost 😉 Compost all of your food & compostable scraps during the cooking and cleaning process! Using a service like WasteNot, Inc. that accepts meats, bones & solid dairy is your best bet for sustainable disposal. 4. Carpool 🚗 Many of us will be driving long distances to family homes this Thursday. Make travel efficient as possible by coordinating rides and limiting the number of cars on the road. How are you practicing sustainability this Thanksgiving? #wastenot #thanksgivingtips #sustainability

Twinkling lights, holiday cheer, and a whole lot of waste. 😱 Let's shine a light on the problem! 💡 Did you know that an estimated 150 million strands of string lights are sold in the US each year? 🤯 Most end up in landfills. Let's change that! In collaboration for the second year in a row, WasteNot and Reduce Waste Chicago will be collecting and recycling broken string lights just in time for the holiday season! Together, we're committed to reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future for our community. Residential WasteNot members can order a collection today via WasteNot Shop: https://lnkd.in/evfzgsjS

  • Over the weekend, WasteNot was the lead sponsor for Mulch Madness - an initiative led by the Ravenswood Neighbors Association here in Chicago 🍁 🍂 Mulch Madness is an annual yard waste collection drive designed to encourage neighborhood leaf collection. Participants bring their leaves to a central location and its processed into leaf mulch, then donated to the Montrose Metra Community Gardens! WasteNot's mission to rethink waste as a resource perfectly aligns with this popular #hyperlocal initiative that motivates residents to think of their leaves and yard waste as a resource that can be put back into the community ♻️ 🪴
