We need your help to provide another 1,000 VF100 water filters to families in Chimaltenango, Guatemala. 💧🇬🇹 Our water project in the rural community outside of Chimaltenango has already provided 1,000 VF100 water filters to low income families. But there are still families lacking this essential, lifesaving resource. Guatemala is the number one country in Latin America for child malnutrition. Its levels of stunting in children under the age of five is close to 50%. Only half the population has access to uncontaminated drinking water that is readily available. Currently there is no clean water infrastructure in the community we are working in. If a family isn’t able to purchase bottled water from a market, they have no option but to drink water that can make them sick. Together let's change and save lives, one water filter at a time. What if we could prevent a water crisis from the start? 💧 Natural disaster relief is as much about meeting the immediate need as preventing another disaster and water crisis from happening in the future. In December 2021 Super Typhoon Odette (also known as Typhoon Rai) struck the Philippines. The effects were catastrophic. 409 people died, and damaged pipelines and infrastructure left most families without clean water for over a month. Filipinos are constantly at risk of another water crisis as a result of natural disasters and typhoons. But being prepared for the worst today can make all the difference when the next disaster hits. On our recent water project to the Philippines, Water for Life Charity volunteers led several workshops where they distributed VF100 water filters and taught local families filter maintenance. After these workshops, several volunteers then visited surrounding provinces to share more water filters in the hopes of preventing future water crises. Solving the world water crisis means supplying at-risk communities with the clean water resources they need to prevent a water crisis from happening in the future. Empowerment and education are part of the world water crisis solution. Providing the well or water filter to access clean water is only the first step. Training and empowering individuals and communities to maintain that resource is how lives are changed. If you give someone a clean water filter, you give them water for a day. E.coli, malaria, dysentery, typhoid fever, giardia and hepatitis A can all be contracted when individuals drink, cook with, wash their hands or brush their teeth with unclean water. In August 2022 one third of Pakistan was under water due to catastrophic floods. 33 million individuals–primarily children–were left trying to survive. With your support, Water for Life Charity distributed 296 VF100 water filter kits to high-risk communities through our partner on the ground Helping Hand USA. With those filters, 1,766 individuals across six cities were able to access life-saving clean water. These same filters continue to provide clean, safe water today.
